Reflections - I have been involved with PRIDE here in Vancouver WA for the better part of 20 years.
In that time I have seen a lot of changes, and a lot of interest. I want to thank everyone who has been to the event and rediscovered the amazing experience you can have there.
I am stepping down from the position of President at the end of the month. What happens next and what will happen next is truly up to all of you.
If you are interested in discovering what you can do and how you can assist PRIDE in the Couve, then start the process of being involved now.
It doesn't happen without a lot of work and contacts. It doesn't happen without a lot of the community coming together to make it the event it is.
I want to see all of you considering what you can do, if even just a small part of the work, to make the event happen.
Next year is 30 years of the Event - Saturday in the Park. If you have loved and enjoyed it, then get involved and keep it going.

Legacy Health is putting on multiple Monkeypox vaccine clinics over the next few months. Our first is in Vancouver this Saturday, with more being planned for both Portland and Vancouver. The current outbreak is primarily impacting the gay, trans, and bisexual community among those who have multiple sexual partners. Since the infection spreads by touch as well as by sexual contact we need to work quickly to prevent others in our immediate circles from exposure and the disease gaining a foothold in other groups. There is not enough vaccine to go around so please help encourage anyone who might be at higher risk to get vaccinated soon.

We the Board of Vancouver USA Pride, wanted to take this opportunity to Thank all of you, our friends, neighbors, vendors and sponsors for your support of Saturday In The Park through the years. In 2019, we had what our largest turnout in our 25 year history. Esther Short Park overflowed with people of all ages, from all walks of life, members of the LGBTQ community, allies, and community members alike. If you were there, you likely remember because the air was electric. The entertainment was bigger, with the widest variety of acts that we had presented to date. And the booths! Filling every corner of the park, we had our largest participation of local businesses, churches and non-profits to date participating to be a presence and introduce themselves to their neighbors at an event that would allow them to proudly show their alignment with the LGBTQ community. Drag Queen Story Hour was attended by a veritable sea of children. And when protestors appeared to ruin the good time, the allies stepped in, providing a wall of peaceful safety between the negativity and the fun, shielding the kids from the protestors and their signs so that the storytime could continue. This is what Saturday in the Park is about. Neighbors coming together to celebrate understanding, unity, and Pride. 2020 saw events everywhere cancelled due to the Pandemic. Saturday In the Park was of course cancelled, and plans were made to see where the following year would find us, globally, nationally, and locally. Unfortunately, in February of 2021, it became clear that a live event was just not going to be possible for 2021. As a board, we decided that there was simply no way we could plan for an event that still had so many unknowns. So, the second Saturday in July of 2021 may not have Saturday in The Park this year, but please be assured that the Board of Directors is already laying the groundwork for 2022! Vancouver USA PRIDE is the Organization who put on the PRIDE Event in Vancouver, WA each year on the 2nd Saturday in July. The Event is “Saturday in the Park PRIDE” which was named after the famous song by the band Chicago.
Vancouver USA PRIDE also provides scholarships, educational materials and services to the general public about LGBTQ Issues and Concerns. From time to time, we also have workshops for LGBTQ People traveling around the USA and overseas.
The Bonnie J Tinker Scholarship is open to all who are LGBTQ or LGBTQ Allies. You can go to our website at http://www.bjtscholarship.com to learn more about the scholarship and to apply. The Application can be downloaded.
The Organization also honors the community, individuals, businesses, and other organizations who have made a positive impact for the LGBTQ People and their families in SW Washington. The Justin M Taylor Community Awards can be found on its own page.
We raise funds for other charities as well including Martha’s Pantry which is a Food Pantry for people living with HIV / AIDS or effected by HIV/AIDS.
