Arbitrage (2012)

Just finished Arbitrage, and it is a well made thriller. All Richard Gere bashing aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Though, I do have to admit it is a little heavy on the Kennedy allegory.

Directed by Nicholas Jarecki. With Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling, Tim Roth. A troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire makes an error that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help.

Who is going to see the Hobbit this weekend? I'm stuck at work, so I guess I'll watch Lord of the Rings all day! Oh, well...

George Lucas

So I presume by now that everyone has heard that George Lucas is $4,050,000,000 richer, after selling the Star Wars franchise to Disney the now owners of the Marvel Universe. At the same time Disney announced the release of the next three films in the series to be released starting in 2015. Fanboys are sad and outraged, Executives are seeing green. But isn't there room for apprehensive elation? I think so! Why not? They can't be any worse than the drivel Lucas spewed in 1, 2 & 3. And now we finally have the opportunity to see Luke as something other than a sniveling bitch or a talentless mook. 7, 8 & 9 have to be even more action packed than all the others and who knows by 2015 we may have the technology to shoot the whole movie in space and bio-engineer the aliens. Although Disney does own the Muppets, so the return of the felt and rubber species in likely. What else will Disney do? I think it's likely the crossovers will only be accelerated. Lego Muppet Star Wars? Hell, let's throw in Iron Man and Thor while we are at it, everybody loves Robert Downey Jr.. Why not make him fight a Jedi? If they use the force on him, Jarvis will have to say, "But Sir, those ARE the droids you're looking for." But don't stop there Disney! My idea for TOY STORY 4: Andy, having recently graduated college with a masters in IT and adult onset diabetes introduces Woody and the gang to every nerds' dream, his recently acquired vintage Hasbro Star Wars action figures, mint in box. Woody and the gang, convinced the Star Wars crew is better off cavorting with them 'frees' them from institutionalized captivity. UNTIL, Andy, after twenty years, discovers that his toys are alive and has a nervous breakdown, is commited, subjected to shock therapy and finally a frontal lobotomy, only to realize that Sid shares the padded cell next to him.
