Join us this Friday for the closing reception of “With Bated Breath,” featuring the work of Chad Robert Collofello, Margo Cavis and Sasha Mereu. If you have not seen this show, this is an excellent time to do so! The artists will be present to discuss past work, current work, commissions, and more.

Having observed art sales in Vancouver over the past few years, I can confidently say that this work is very nicely priced, starting at $150. Sizes of works range from 9 x 9” to 30 x 80” and cover concepts that are deeply meaningful to the artists, but also highly relatable to humanity.

Bonus: It’s the curator’s birthday! Sharon will be extra nice this Friday. There will be free baklava and coffee. Hope to see you there!

The joys of seeing art in person... you get to zoom into the parts that you want to examine. You see the stroke, the shadow, the light. You feel the tension, the hope, the lump in your throat.

I walk through the exhibit at least once a week and take the art in. I often find things I didn't see before, or it falls on me differently, depending on my day. What do you love about seeing art in person?

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for the Artists Reception on First Friday! It means a lot to the artists to connect with others and discuss their works. It also is rewarding for the guests!

One of my favorite moments was chatting with a young woman who expressed an interest in meeting other artists, building her portfolio and honing her practice. These conversations are so important to building and maintaining creative perspective in our community, but they don't happen without YOU. So come out to these art events. Share your love for art, inspire, and be inspired.

Pictured here, slides 1-3: Chad Collofello takes guests on a walk through the gallery. Margo Cavis escorts some friends through the halls. Sasha Mereu chats with a friend in the community room.

In this series, Chad examines how we relate to each other and to our environments. There's so much to see TOMORROW on First Friday. Won't you join us?

“My work is a visual representation of trauma combined with current concerns for the well-being of my children and our environment. Through the visual image I am telling part of my life’s story. Expressing feelings from moments, lived and observed, from my past, present, and predicted future. The work is like a visual journal, as new ideas combine with prior experiences, sometimes revisited or re-examined, documented in a painted image.”

Sasha negotiates with perception in this exhibit. Be sure to join us this Friday and embrace the pareidolia!

“The bulk of what is on display is my photographic work. Each piece is an illusion. I strive to show you not what is, but what could be. Pareidolia is the tendency to find patterns where none exist. My work combines these concepts to create images formed by the interaction of your pattern-seeking tendencies along with your unique catalog of images and stories.”

Margo’s evocative scenes will pull you under. See them in person this Friday at the artists reception.

“I have a passion for diving, and have traveled the world filming this magical surreal world underwater. I am inspired by my experiences, both above and below the surface. These experiences become my creative drive and I translate those thoughts, memories and emotions into surreal underwater scenes.”

Pictured here is “Undercover” and “Storm of a Lifetime” by Margo Cavis.

Corridor will not be “open” for First Friday. I will be out and about spreading the word about the gallery, and visiting the other great venues participating tonight. I will probably head over to Corridor at some point just for fun, so if you REALLY want to see it TONIGHT, find me or message me.

In lieu of our absence, please enjoy this coupon code for 15% off works by Sarah Lynne Hunter and Tyler Walker. Go to corridorgallery.square.site where all the works are also on display, and use the code: Envisioned2022

A special thanks to the artists, visitors and buyers who have decided that ART is a priority in their lives. With your support, artists showing through Corridor collectively made about $3500. Commissions earned about $1000, which went directly back into the gallery. That’s a BIG DEAL, considering the circumstances!

To celebrate, I’m including some highlights from the year. In the first slide, we have samples of work that SOLD (and a couple that haven’t, but there’s still time ;). The following 5 slides express some of my favorite moments at the gallery - people engaging through ART - one of the purest commodities.

Stay. Tuned. Because we have more great things planned for 2022. The current show “Envisioned” will be up until Jan 20th. You can access the show M-F 8am-5pm, or outside of those hours by appointment. It’s also on our website linked in the profile!

The artists celebrated in 2021 include (left to right, chronological order, slide 1):
Courtney Hansen, Sam Marroquin, Annie Rosenberg, Sharon Svec, Washington Dance Creative, Sarah Lynne Hunter, Tyler Walker and Jason Litts.

YAY EVERYBODY! Thank you! Keep Creating!

I had another private viewing at the gallery today. These 1:1 viewings are so rewarding. They allow the viewer time to really digest the work and to share how the art appeals to them personally.

Upon this visit, Cara views a work by Tyler Walker and shares, “I am seeing, and I feel seen.” It’s an eloquent compliment to this piece which depicts elements of a face imposed onto the rough outlines of a head. The powerful and intense eyes of this disembodied form seem to peer directly into your soul.

If you are interested in a private viewing, it’s easy and free to do. Just send me a message to set it up. It helps me as a curator, better connect people to works that inspire and engage. My hope is that as a viewer, it helps one process, build and release in a sort of meditative way that can be applied to ones personal goals and experiences. Maybe you will find something to take home - but no worries if not! This is a no pressure experience.

This show featuring Tyler Walker, Sarah Lynne Hunter and Jason Litts is up thru January 20th. Reach out for an appt., OR stop in when you get a chance, and let us know what you think!

Have you been yet to the Corridor to see this show? I love seeing art in the middle of the day - on a lunch break - or during a walk. It offers that restful break that ci******es used to give me. But it's way healthier! So breathe in some good art and stop in the Corridor M-F 8-5 or other times by appt. Hit me up. I'd be happy to meet you and inhale the fragrant colors of these great artists together. -Sharon

Artist Profile: Jason Litts

I first saw Jason's work at Art at the Cave in August of 2019. I noticed right away, the drama and mystery in his pieces. I wasn't too surprised to find out that he was a thespian, like myself. Seeing his work throughout the years continues to be rewarding.

Here's Jason's words...
"I distrust artist statements, as it belongs to the individual observing the piece to find meaning in art. Our perception of intrinsic value is shrouded by personal experience and unconscious bias. My pursuit in creating a piece is that it might resonate with something deep inside the individual and facilitate an emotional response."

Visit the gallery M-F 8-5 or by appointment. I will be in and out this Saturday, so if that works for you - let me know! I'll meet & greet you!

Artist Profile: Sarah Lynne Hunter

I first saw Sarah's work at Phoenix Rising and at Art at the Cave. I was taken by her jewelry and her paintings. She's a busy artist, not only doing the work of art and jewelry-making but also volunteering, muraling, selling her wares at events, doing some solid promotions, and not to mention all the typical human interaction stuff!

From the artist: “My current artistic passions include figuratively expressionistic oil paintings and creating high-vibration jewelry…My most recent artistic works explore themes of femininity and mental health through a figurative lens, with elements of surrealism and modern expressionism. I juxtapose socio-cultural ideas of femininity and female identity found in history, literature, and religion with the experiences of the 21st century woman, and often include personal imagery within my work. I also explore ideas pertaining to mental health and believe that personal expression through art can be a very meaningful and healing form of therapy. I feel that putting visual imagery to some of the mental health struggles that many people face offers a form of collective healing.”

At Corridor, we are excited to be featuring 5 of Sarah's paintings. Shown here are: Slide 1: “Aphrodite Nocturnus” by Sarah Lynne Hunter. Slide 2: gallery display in upper corridor of 3 of Sarah’s paintings. Slide 3: Sarah in front of her work “False Dichotomy.” Visit the gallery M-F 8am-5pm to see these in person. You can also find them online at our website, linked in the profile.

Artist Profile: Tyler Walker

Tyler Walker came into my view about a year ago. His passion for the arts was unmistakable. This past Saturday, I met Tyler and some guests for a private showing. It was especially rewarding to have this time to hear directly from Tyler about his processes, perspectives and inspirations. I’m sharing an excerpt of his artist statement here, but note that if you’d like a personal tour - we are happy to accommodate. Just reach me by web form or IG message.

“My work is driven by impulse and intuition. I don’t do a lot of sketching, or planning of my paintings. I find painting to be an act of mindfulness, meditation. My inspirations often come from nature, forests, biology, all things outside of the built environment and our relationships with them. Im intrigued by the natural world on the micro and macro scale.” - Tyler Walker

Forgive my latency on this platform. I have been out of town and life's been a bit hectic. BUT PLEASE don't miss your chance to stroll through this exhibit before it comes down next week.

Washington Dance Creative has put together a number of photo shoots in the past few years, and this exhibit demonstrates the beautiful results of the collaboration. Your purchase supports your local artists, and quite possibly your soul.

The gallery is FREE and accessible 8am-5pm M-F or by appointment. I live super close and it's my pleasure to meet you and provide access on the weekend or after hours. I don't care if you buy art. I only want to offer perspective and variance. Come get it.

Evolution of a logo (and a sign)…
(see all images for full story)

When I took over curation in April, we decided to rename the gallery. I came up with Corridor, as it is a true reflection of what the gallery is - two L-shaped halls lined with art. The name describes the space. Those seeking to show work here, or to visit will hopefully find the title to be a helpful descriptor. Also, the definition of the word is that of a passageway, connecting parts of a building, or a stretch of land connecting areas of interest. In every sense of the word, it’s a passage to connect, and that’s what this gallery is. It’s a passage to connect with other artists, to connect with the community, to connect through the art which establishes a unifying theme quarterly for this tract of space and head-space.

Now for the logo. I sketched a few ideas out, and was leaning toward one in particular - though it felt a bit too stale to me yet - My other option felt too loose and lacked strength or character. I didn’t rush myself. I watched “Sid & Judy” and there in this movie about Judy Garland was my logo! Well, practically! It was a graphic created by David Navas, but was extremely reminiscent of what I had drawn in my book days before. So I thought it must be that logo I need to use. So I cleaned it up and have been using it ever since.

I’m currently making it into a sign to mark the location during First Friday and other events. Look for it next week!

Up close and personal with more of Courtney's work. I'm feeling some organized chaos here. Great balance of color and content.

From her bio... "For over 10 years, Courtney worked as a makeup artist. This artistry was another way to share and develop her skills, pulling concepts from current trends. She considers fashion, design and pop culture her main influences."

These and more available for purchase. Prices range from $95-$210. Send us a message to learn more.

A sampling of works by Sam Marroquin…

From her bio, "Investigating and exposing truth in current and historic events, Sam Marroquin is always aware and processing what is going on in the world around us. News and ideas which are avoided by popular culture and media are the source for her work. Responding to the collective experience of fact and fiction she explores the authenticity of cultural information. Uncovering truth becomes a way of documenting current history while looking to the past as well as the future."

"She works intently, building layer upon layer of images, text, visual information, found objects and acrylic paint. Images, carefully selected from magazines, books, newspapers and the Internet compose her work. She incorporates metal, wire, bits of plastic, mesh, tags, paper, product packaging and other castoff items from her collection of found materials."

This and more, available for your casual viewing pleasure at Corridor Gallery, 610 Esther St. M-F 10-3. Meet Sam on May 7th for First Friday! RSVP requested, not required.
