Hey friends! There’s road construction on calumet, an the only way to access the studio parking lot is to come in from the south. If you come in by Casey’s, you’ll be able to get into the parking lot!

Curious about Valpo Salsa Dancing? Here’s our class information and some FAQs below! 👇

Classes are on Wednesday nights only:
7pm: Beginner
8pm: Intermediate
9pm: Social dancing hour until 10!

📍 Location: Valpo City Ballroom in Valpo
💲 Cost: Only $10 per person per MONTH! Our instructors are all volunteers, so the $10 monthly cost goes toward renting out the ballroom studio. Cash and Venmo are accepted!

Q: What styles of dance do you teach?
We teach primarily salsa, bachata, and rueda de casino (Cuban salsa)! We focus on one style of dance per month, so each month both the beginner and intermediate classes will be teaching the same style and building off of each week. Make sure to follow our page to stay updated on our monthly focus!

Q: Are there any discounts?
College students can attend for FREE! We love how dance draws people together and want to keep it accessible, which is why our cost is $10 per person per month for adults and FREE for college students.

Q: Do I need a partner to show up?
Everyone is welcome! We rotate partners throughout all of our classes, so you don’t need to bring a partner with you to attend!

Q: What do I need to bring with me?
Probably some water (dancing is great cardio! 💃) and some dancing shoes if you prefer! We sometimes have water bottles to give away, but not always. We don’t require specific shoes, so some people wear sneakers and some wear ballroom shoes. Whatever you are comfortable in will work! During the winter, we ask that people bring shoes to change into at the studio just to take care of the dance floor and keep it free from water and salt.

Q: What are the class dynamics like?
We focus on creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere! Classes can range in size but are typically between 20-30 people. We accept dancers of all skill levels and encourage anyone who is brand new to dancing to come to our beginner classes!

If you have any other questions, feel free to message us!

Friends, we are so excited to kick off February with some Rueda de Casino! We recently switched up our class format: instead of rotating between salsa and bachata every week, we are now focusing on one dance style each month with the goal of building up our vocabulary a little more.

December was salsa month, January was bachata month, and now February is rueda de casino!

What is rueda de casino, you might be asking? 🤔 Great question! Rueda de Casino is a Cuban-style salsa danced in a circle with multiple couples. A caller calls out moves, and everyone dances them together—switching partners, laughing, and feeding off the group’s energy. It’s playful, upbeat, and one of the most fun ways to experience salsa.

In this video, you can hear John calling out the names of moves and then all the dancers do them together in sync! Rueda is a form of salsa and danced to salsa music.

We hope you’ll join us this month for rueda classes! Beginner classes are at 7pm, and the intermediate classes will start right after at 8pm.

Check out the event listing on our page for more info!

This coming Wednesday, we will spend a lot of time breaking down the very foundations of the dance and basic step so that everyone feels confident and is having fun! Let’s salsa!!

What a crazy winter weather day we’ve had! We’re going to cancel classes tonight because of the snow. Stay safe out there and practice your bachata moves at home! 🕺

We’ll see you back again next Wednesday for beginner bachata at 7pm and intermediate bachata at 8pm!

Our beginner salsa lesson last week! We started with the basic step and went all the way up to a shoulder check 🤩 the students in the beginner class did some impressive moves!

Tomorrow night will be our last Wednesday night of the year! The beginner lesson is at 7pm, followed by the intermediate lesson at 8pm.

12/10/2025

We’re still on for classes tonight! Beginner at 7pm and intermediate at 8pm - see you soon!

Also, this winter weather we got today is a good reminder for us all to make sure we’re bringing an extra pair of shoes to change into for class! Making sure we’re not wearing shoes with salt/ice on the soles from outside will help us take care of the nice dance floor at Valpo City Ballroom. ❄️☃️
