Stars and Stripes to Fly Again: Historic Red Men’s Hall Flagpole Restored
Samoset Tribe #22, Improved Order of Red Men, Dedicates Restored Rooftop Flagpole Ahead of America’s 250th Birthday
VALLEJO, Calif. — After decades of silence, the flagpole atop historic Red Men’s Hall at 431 Georgia Street in downtown Vallejo is ready once more to proudly carry the Stars and Stripes above the city skyline. The American flag has not been flown from this pole in the current century — by most accounts, the last time the colors flew from this rooftop was sometime in the mid-20th century. Now, after all those years, Samoset Tribe #22, Improved Order of Red Men, announces the restoration of the building’s iconic flagpole and will celebrate with a public dedication ceremony on the afternoon of Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The timing of the restoration could hardly be more fitting. Just one week after the dedication, the United States of America will mark its 250th birthday on July 4, 2026 — a milestone known as the Semiquincentennial. As communities across the nation prepare to honor two and a half centuries of American history, Samoset Tribe #22 will contribute a visible, patriotic symbol to Vallejo’s own celebration: the American flag, raised high above one of the city’s most storied buildings.
The dedication also carries deep personal significance for the Tribe itself. Founded in Vallejo on July 19, 1869, Samoset Tribe #22 is one of the oldest chartered lodges of the Improved Order of Red Men in California. As the flagpole rises again just days before the Tribe’s own anniversary, the moment becomes a dual celebration — of the nation’s founding ideals and of more than 157 years of fraternal fellowship and community service in the Vallejo area.
Red Men’s Hall itself is a landmark of downtown Vallejo, and the flagpole has long been a recognizable feature of its roofline. The restoration effort reflects the Tribe’s enduring commitment to preserving both the physical heritage of the building and the civic traditions it represents. Members, families, and community supporters are warmly invited to join the afternoon dedication ceremony on June 27th to witness the flag ascend the newly restored pole for the first time.
“This flagpole represents more than a piece of hardware on a rooftop,” said a spokesperson for Samoset Tribe #22. “It is a declaration of pride — in our country, in our city of Vallejo, and in the long history of this Tribe. With America’s 250th birthday just around the corner and our own anniversary close behind, there is no better moment to raise that flag again.”
