an update, and some recent moments: nearly six months ago, I ordered this work of art. I was working for a small tech startup, which provided me with true financial stability for the first time in my life, as well as incredibly caring and accommodating colleagues, and some once in a lifetime experiences. A month after I placed this order, I was laid off. all that stability poof-ed. I thought I was immune, I had already survived two rounds of layoffs the previous year and had been with the company for 3 and half years.
at the same time, the reality was that I was struggling deeply with my mental health, among other things. this job was the first I’d ever held for longer than 5 months. I had virtually complete autonomy, I received an abundance of respect and compassion, no accommodation I requested was unfulfilled, but it still wasn’t going to be sustainable forever. I was running myself ragged.
now, six months after ordering the jacket, when I’ve reached the last $5 to my name, it’s arrived. I’m so grateful to the artist for making sure it arrived safely (we had some crazy bad luck with shipping and she graciously repainted the design for me). It truly feels like armor.
on the music front, it’s my #1 priority right now. my tech job gave me a lot of skills and confidence that I didn’t have before, that I’m now translating to my creative life. I’m really nervous and excited to share what I’m working on, I can’t wait to share it soon.
