A Tony Nominee (x3). An unbelievable talent. A friend. client. A fellow CCM Bearcat (rawr!). And a kind person who is so deserving of the winning era she is in!

The sheer number of virtual lessons then in-person lessons, videos back and forth to find the exact right vowel placement, and voice memos about small ways to make the vocal load more efficient…all because Marla always said, “As Celine, I need the audience to feel cared for and not worry about me. In order for them to have fun, they need to know I’ve got it, and I’ve got them.”

That mindset tells you everything you need to know about Marla’s commitment to excellence.

The number of times I’ve cried watching is honestly concerning. But when you know the work someone has put in behind the scenes, watching them win just hits differently.

I know this is starting to read like a eulogy (lol), but seeing Marla receive the recognition she deserves (after we’ve been vocally working on this Celine material on and off since 2021) has been one of my favorite things to witness this season.

She is proof that incredible hard work, insane talent, and being deeply unhinged in the best way can all coexist beautifully. 💅

Congratulations, Marla! You deserve all this and more! 🍾🎉🎈 🍾🎉🎈

😮‍💨THE BREATH 😮‍💨Marking breaths. Figuring out where you’re going to breathe. Knowing how much air you need for the phrase an not under or over breathing for the phrase could be part of your song prep that you’re missing!

Don’t wait for the appointment to start working on your dream roles. Start to do the nitty gritty work NOW. Figure out the vowels, figure out the breath, figure out the intentions! And when that appointment does come? Honey, you’re gonna be READY! 🔥
