Throwback Thursday comes around full circle. Years ago, in 2005, my mom and I began a series of greeting cards based on her hand drawn screen-printed cards of sea life and orchids. Although we did not have the chance to finish our project together, I've wanted to recreate some of our designs to honor her art and the encouragement she gave me to be an artist. This is "LaRita's Blue Heron".

During the months of March and April my artwork is hanging in the beautiful waiting room of Cascadia Physical Therapy in Fairhaven. I will admit itβs amazing for me to see my art so big like this in one room with so much space. Our little forest cabinβs walls are tiny and there is not much light. So I took the chance and printed a few of my favorites big for this occasion because - well it is special to get to have my art displayed in a large lovely room with bright sunlight shining in like this. Thanks so much to the owner Avilio for getting in touch and giving me this opportunity to show my art.
These are all printed on slightly textured fine art paper. Hummingbird Queen is framed in her upcycled barnwood, the rest are mounted on super lightweight foam core. All my art is vector art and can be printed at pretty much any size. π·
I spent the weekend drawing which was incredibly good - It's not finished and I'll spend some time later this week adding more little ladybugs and butterflies and creatures, not sure what else, maybe some fairies. These are screenshots I took last night for a sneak peak. π§ββοΈππ¦π¦
I sent three illustrations to print tonight for upcoming 2024 art shows. I plan to print larger this year than in the past. π€© One of the three I just sent to print is "Mermaid" which will be a 30x40" print on Moab Light Texture Paper. Here are a few bits of that design. I'm excited to see it on paper, so different than on the screen. I'll post more soon about art events I'll be participating in this year. I have a few things in the works starting in March and am also super excited for the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour and group gallery shows which I'm participating in again. We've have had a busy start to the year and am now really catching up in February.
All my designs are drawn as vector art so they can be printed at just about any size. If you have a special request for a design printed to fit perfectly in your space let me know. π§ββοΈ

We're not vending this year (too exhausted from this very busy year I had) but we LOVE the Pacific Arts Market and so enjoyed our afternoon shopping there yesterday. I picked up "Envision" from the Whatcom Museum today. The Studio Tours are winding down and I am too. It's been an amazing experience I'm so happy I participated.
It feels like time now to cozy up for the winter, slow down, draw, rest, pace myself, less marathon work all-nighters, more chill work-in-the-daytime hours, less rushing, more drawing, more bird watching. I am going to animate Envision and make my corn nests fly , and maybe do 'nothing' now and then if I can figure that out... π
I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone this year and it's been incredible. Thanks to John by my side helping me through every day, we did the Pickle Barn in Skagit, the Hogfarm Hideaway Festival in California, the Whatcom Artist Studio Tours including 4 gallery group shows, and I was honored to be the featured artist at the Rome Store for two months which was fantastic. And I made it to DC to see my amazing daughter. What a year it has been. π₯° π«

I've been taking a much needed break from social media to focus on a ton of writing projects. I finally learned just today that it's super easy to "screenshot a video"! This is sped up 3x faster than real life, drawing in Adobe Illustrator. I'm just fixing lines and adding random details this Sunday evening before the weekend is over. π₯° I draw with a Wacom Intuos Pro in Illustrator. This particular screenshot is drawing at 400% and 600%. I had promised I would only draw this at no closer than 300% and after 6 months working on it you can see that zooming in is a never ending possibility with vector art. This is my first attempt to record myself drawing and possibly it is not that exciting. But now I know how to do this, so I will make some more interesting examples of drawing with vector in the future. π
