So, I've been kind of hesitant to make this post, because I never want to Over Promise and not be able to deliver. But a recent post in Brookville led to a long discussion about what this town is hoping for in the future, and I had shared our plans there sort of secretly, but was requested by some folks in the community to share them here as well. So I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Ashley, my husband and I run Legends Arcade down in the harbor. We've lived in Brookings for about 10 years now. Legends Arcade is a 3,000 sqft arcade and party space and have been open for almost 3 years now. I wanted to let you all know that we are actively working on opening a Family Entertainment Center here in town that would include Mini Golf, Laser Tag, a bigger Arcade, and more (maybe a few lanes of duck pin bowling, VR, etc depending on space). That being said, a project of that size is both very complicated and very expensive. We have been actively researching and putting the initial ground work in for the past 3 years towards this goal though. The three "obvious" locations in town are quite expensive. The skating rink is approximately $11,000/mo, the SCA building in the center of town is $11,120/mo, the old Rite Aid building is $15,750/mo. Most of these buildings would need extensive updates to their fire suppression system and safety systems to qualify for insurance and or pass fire inspection, and would need several expensive assessments for change of use, sanitation, etc. Not impossible, but all these things take time. We have two business plans we've been working on simultaneously. The 1st, and easiest would need about $1.5-2 Million on the lower end to get started. Most commercial landlords we've talked to want 6 mo to a years worth of rent in an account before signing a lease (between 90k and 150k). This lower estimate also includes all the repairs, assessments, equipment, etc. Our more.....AMBITIOUS project would cost approximately $20 Million, but would make Brookings an entertainment DESTINATION and allow us more control to be able to bring entertainment to the area. Folks would come from all over the world to experience what we are dreaming up, but the price point is much higher, and thus more difficult to accomplish. We are actively working with lenders and community programs to work towards these goals. We are not independently wealthy, but are darned and determined to make something great for our community!
