Arts education isn’t a luxury — it’s a proven driver of student achievement, creativity, and workforce readiness. But right now, that foundation is under threat. The federal funding streams that support arts education in schools nationwide face funding cuts. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) — a critical funder of arts programs across the country. The President’s FY 2027 Budget Request proposed eliminating the agency and advocacy is crucial to maintaining the NEA's funding through Congress. And access to arts degrees, including at HBCUs, is increasingly under pressure, threatening pathways into the creative economy for the next generation of artists and leaders.

When we lose these investments, we lose more than programs — we lose opportunity, culture, and community. This National Arts in Education Week, we’re urging Congress to fully fund arts education’s five federal funding streams, save the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) from closure, and protect access to arts degrees for every student, including at HBCUs.

The special fundraising concert will feature world-renowned marimba and vibraphone virtuoso Jack Van Geem, joined by Brian Simpson on percussion and Rob Wright on double bass. Internationally acclaimed cellist Jennifer Kloetzel will appear as the trio’s special guest.

It’s not everyday Francis Coppola comes to your concert!

What’s even more eventful was that, because of our staging and scene change, I was taking my seat on stage when he was already waiting in the audience alone. He… started talking to me from his seat and told me he wanted to tell me a story… I was like, really trying to focus on all the stuff I needed to do for this complex performance coming up, (and I couldn’t really hear him) so I was kinda like “not now dude...” and like “really? You wanna tell me a story like, right now?!” 😂 (sorry, Mr. Coppola…)

But clearly we caught up after. He told me the story. What an honor to meet you and play for you, Mr. Coppola!
