For as long as men have held power, that power has been abused. Measure for Measure was written more than 400 years ago, but the story is shockingly familiar here in the twenty-first century: women being coerced sexually by men, who seem to be upstanding pillars of society, and hold power over their lives. Often these women are squeezed, through no fault of their own, into an impossible situation, in which they feel that they cannot refuse, or even speak out for fear of not being believed.

Romolo Garai hosts Shakespeare Uncovered as it discusses Measure for Measure, and its continuing relevance to the current world.

Come see a play that spins this powerful tale into a tragicomedy of Shakespearean proportions. We will be at the Seward Park Amphitheater this Saturday, July 6th at 6:00 PM. The show runs until July 27th. There are 7 more chances to see this timely and thought provoking show. https://m4mseattle.brownpapertickets.com/

Measure For Measure features a final act full of twists, surprises, and reversals of fortune, but perhaps none quite so shocking as something that happens near the end. Isabella, who so eloquently advocates for her brother throughout the play, is suddenly left speechless. But what does it mean, and what were Shakespeare’s intentions? The question is explored below, (spoiler alert!).

Don’t miss The Primrose Players’ performance of this most timely of Shakepeare’s plays by securing your free ticket! The next performance is Saturday, June 29 at 6:00 PM at Epiphany Parish of Seattle. The show runs until July 27.

"Measure for Measure" is technically a comedy, which means it ends with a marriage. So why does Isabella respond to the Duke's proposal with silence?

Having met Miranda a moment ago and now discovering they share the same language, Ferdinand exclaims "Heavens! I am the best of them that speak this speech," which prompts Ariel and Prospero to convey their skepticism with a glance. Come see what other characters make bold boasts, and may or may not get ahead of their skis in trying to live up to them!. Five opportunities remain, the next at Epiphany Parish Seattle at 7 PM Tue Jul 10, outdoors in the church courtyard. See you on the enchanted island!

Thanks, Gary! One performance remaining: 7 PM Fri Jul 28 on Beacon Hill at Welcome Table: A Christian Community of the Disciples of Christ, 1322 S Bayview St, Seattle.

Mega-props to the entire company of Primrose Players, for a stunning production of "The Danish Play" (if M_____h is "The Scottish Play" H____t should properly be The Danish Play, shouldn't it?)--two days ago, at St Mark's. It was truly one of the best Danish Plays I've ever seen--in any context--both in concept and ex*****on: great performances, solid direction, effective production qualities--spare but effective. So sorry I've couldn't have seen it earlier, to shout it out before it closed, which, I believe, was last night. Everyone associated with the piece should be very proud of their work. I'll be checking out whatever they do next!
