Fabulous Miniatures Tours

17/03/2024

Last Sunday marked 4 months since mom left us. I write today as one of her favorite holidays she so enjoyed St. Pat's Day! 🍀🇮🇪🍀We miss her so. Our family will gather together Easter weekend to then host our final good bye on April 2 with a dual service at Arlington National Cemetery for dad's military honors. If you happen to be in the area, please message me for details. This poem we had in her bulletin for her memorial service last year, so wanted to share with her community.
In a world of miniatures, she found delight,
Tiny wonders, a captivating sight.
With nimble fingers and a heart so true,
Molly’s creations, a legacy she drew.
Each dollhouse a tale, each room a song,
A symphony of memories where she belonged.
In every miniature, her spirit resides,
A testament to the passion that in her abides.
So let us cherish these tiny works of art,
A reflection of Molly’s creative heart.
In the realm of miniatures, she found her bliss,
A true world of wonder...She’ll be forever missed.

Molly Cromwell Presents...

Hi from Molly,

Hope you'll join me for a wonderful trip I have in the works! I'm half way through my flier about a late September trip I'm putting together traveling to England.year! We visited the Birmingham Miniatura with a small group of collectors a year ago and happily found it has rebounded, as have many of the US shows. I think their recession mirrored ours, as has the recovery! My traveling there last year wasn't just about supporting Andy Hopwood, whose mother, Muriel founded the show years ago, but I've always loved this show, as it not only features legendary artisans, but really good dealers who don't or can't make it to shows in the US! I am elated when I see new talent showing up....found some fabulous, well-priced pieces.

The Miniatura show, at the NEC (National Exhibitiion Center), is Saturday and Sunday, Sept 30-Oct 1 - we're staying at the hotel right next door to it - our trip will extend on both sides of the show's dates.

It's the only time of the year that visitors have ticketed entrances to Buckingham Palace (the Queen is on vacation, back the end of September - you'll love the gift shop, perfect affordable souvenir... a shower cap that says Buckingham Palace on it!). We'll visit Windsor Castle/Queen Mary's Dolls' House, Covent Garden, Castle Howard - considered one of the most beautiful places to visit in the UK. I also love the medieval walled city of York - my favorite place to take people - the magestic York Minster/Cathedral is fabulous, plus we'll have entries to Fairfax House - where we'll see one of the finest collections of Georgian furniture, porcelain, tall case clocks, etc. that I have ever seen gathered in one place! As well as the Jorvik (Viking name for York) Center...it chronicles the invasions by the Vikings and Romans - with realistic life size tableaus, featuring both sight, sounds and SMELLS!!! - as you ride in a two person cocoon, with the narrative being given as you glide along - a unique chance to sit down and sight-see!!!. We will also visit Stately homes and Award winning Gardens, including Caroline Hamilton and Jane Fiddick's exceptional dolls' house collection beautifully displayed at Newby Hall, mini shops including Kristen Baybar's in Gospel Oak - and a night at the Feather's Hotel in Ludlow - dating back to Henry VIII's days! I also want to show everyone Ludlow Castle, an exceptionally romantic ruin, and more. Final tweaks are being given to both the itinerary and cost as I write.

Love to have you join me, the summer crowds have dispersed and the weather is lovely then... as are the gardens, giving their last hurrah until Spring! Will need $500 deposits to hold your place asap as we're already holding rooms in our hotels. I'm only taking 12 travelers along, so get your name on my list asap please. Twin beds and king beds are available. Plus, if you need a single room, we will have single supplements. I'll send you the final registration form by the end of this month, but please get your deposit in now, to hold your spot. Bring your DH, BFF, gather up a gaggle of club members, or come alone, you'll be surrounded by new friends in five minutes! We always have a great timel! Mail your deposit to Molly Cromwell Presents...Tours, 44421 Adare Manor Sq., Ashburn, VA 20147 I will hold all checks until we reach 12 travelers. Balances will be due mid-August.

Cheers,
Molly

Sad news, a dear friend to both Jim and me, Dominick Manella, well known dealer of vintage miniatures and a presence at all of my shows each year, died this past Wednesday. I received a call at 11 p.m. in Vienna while on my annual Christmas Markets cruise from Pat Wehmeier/Schaumburg, IL - also a dealer of vintage and collectible miniatures who had traveled with Dominick to my FL, VA and Sturbridge miniature shows many times in the past.

I have a hole in my heart....the last time we talked just before leaving for the cruise, when he answered his phone I started singing the Stevie Wonder song, "I just called to say I love you....I just called to say how much I care...." - he was touched and told me it made him feel happy to hear me sing to him....not because I'm a good singer, trust me. He had so many friends in the miniatures world and beyond, I'm going to post this on digests I frequent, so pass the word if you know anyone who hasn't gotten the news. Pat said a celebration of his life would be coming, probably in February, his birthday month. I'd love to think they might do it in Orlando, where we've been celebrating it yearly around my show there, now turned over to Kim Appleby Sher and husband Roger. I'll post any info I get online so this will have wide circulation.

Molly Cromwell Presents...

Great Sturbridge DOLLHOUSE MINIATURES SHOW LAST weekend..... had the best Pre-registered Preview registration ever plus more who paid at the door.... and great crowd on Sunday, who just kept coming..... dealers were happy! Evelyn bought a great piece from The Hairy Potter/AZ and a lovely desk from Gideon Wolf/MT, whose mentor was Orvin Fjare and Fred Cobbs's Hobbitt House filled with furniture he had made himself.... plus God knows what else, but there were boxes and bags galore in her room! We had to send her daughter, Kim Bates, to Staples to run off some more door prize slips about 12:30 p.m. - and the
concession stand had to refill all the food several times on Sunday. Someone dropped off a lot of old Dollhouse Miniature magazines to put out for give away - and one had Josephine Meyer's name on the cover re an inside article about her work.... it was at least 10 years old...so she had something to
add to her table full of wonderful paintings!

I bought one of Wright Guides pieces I'd been wanting forever, the whole room box of The Printing Shop....plus a great hand crafted Santa from Claire Globensky and five adorable paper doll houses, plus a little girl Hitty from Judy Brown. My Peddlar doll collection just grew... one from Nancy Cronin and one from an English maker by way of Carla Gaustad. Florence LaPorte told me she bought one of Pete's fabulous sterling silver bowls and Fern Vasi's leather jacketed grannys riding a motorcycle. Took a wonderful dome home, with two sided toy shop inside, made by Lynn McEntire.... now have to start searching for wee dolls to fill it, got one from her and one from Suzan Harville, have to start going through some boxes at home. Bought two rug kits from Teresa Layman, ever the optimist that I am! Debbie Young, Ruth Stewart and Ron Stetkewicz stayed busy, too! Shawn Betterley had knee surgery, so Robin stayed home to take care of him but sent their two daughters, who did a great job at the table! Leslie's Tiny Doll House always has a great stash of goodies, be sure to drop by his shop in NYC next time your travels take you there.

Had a great pizza party Sat night after the Preview.... some stayed inside with patio doors open but lots of us used the picnic tables that the staff dragged up near the patio and they even filled the fire pit with logs for us.... overlooking the lake and an almost full moon, I felt like I was at camp!!! Wished for some marshmallows, Hersheys and graham crackers!

On the way out of town Monday, I stopped by a great flower place and bought some pots of Angelonia, succulents, Lupine and a few fairy garden pieces as well as a nifty new birdhouse. Next year's Sturbridge show is June 4 & 5, 2016 at the Host Hotel on Cedar Lake - mark your calendar! Customers and
dealers were booking their rooms as they left for home!

Almost forgot, consumed three strawberry shortcakes in 5 days plus one lobster roll and one lobster pie!!!!

Cheers,
Molly

TRAVEL FOR DOLLHOUSE & LOVERS OF MINIATURES
March 18-25, Molly Cromwell Presents....Netherlands Int Dollhouse Show and travel in Holland, first and last days are travel days...arrange your own flight arrangements, flying our of your nearest airport on March 18 to arrive Amsterdam/Schiphol Airport between 6:30 and 8:30 on a.m. on the 19th. I'll meet you there! KLM is the best carrier (partners with Delta and Air France) for direct flights. I'm going out of Washington Dulles in case you're close enough to depart from there, come fly with me!

In addition to two days at the show (so much fun, as most of the dealers will be new to you, prices are right and you'll find all scales represented) we'll visit the historic Baby Houses at the Rijksmuseum (and while in Amsterdam, we'll enjoy a canal boat ride to view the wonderful architecture unique to Holland)... and Frans Hals Museum....as well as the Old Masters paintings both places...visit two miniature shops, the impressive Keukenhof Gardens abloom with bulbs....the Madurodam, a Lilliputian reproduction of all the famous buildings in Holland including the docks in Rotterdam and the airport in Amsterdam....visit Palace Het Loo (summer palace of Wm and Mary - future King and Queen of England),.... Hindeloopen - a quaint fishing village famous for its painting style and textiles and one of my favorite places. The owner of a great shop there paints miniature furniture in the Hindeloopen style and even makes miniature room boxes. He and his wife will probably join us for coffee one night after dinner...the place we stay is where the village congregates, it's so much fun. Private coach, breakfast and dinner each day and hotels are included...get back to me right away if interested, I've moved the deposit deadline to October 15 as some of you requested - but we need to secure our rooms asap. Call me as we only have five spaces left and I will save your spot: 703 978-5353 or cell 703 200 5341.

Can hardly wait to travel with you, we have such a great time!

Interested in travel in 2015? I’m working on several choices, starting with Holland & The Netherlands International Dollhouse Show, March 19-25, 2015. This trip will include Hindeloopen (you’ll recognize its famous painting style), Palace Het Loo (summer palace of William and Mary, who later became King and Queen of England), Keukenhof Gardens – more blooms than you can imagine - the Rijksmuseum, (finally opened after a long renovation) & the Frans Hal Museum in Haarlem (wait until you see the historic Baby Houses in both places), the Madurodam - every important building in The Netherlands reduced in size, a favorite for years for all travelers to the Netherlands, Zaanse Schanse – a Dutch version of Williamsburg, only without the Rockefellers, but a chance to see wooden shoes and cheese being made, plus what a windmill really does…it’s a relaxing stroll through time with a wonderful lunch as your prize! We’ll have two days at the fabulous Dollhouse show and 2 miniature shops to visit, as well. I need your $500 deposit now to guarantee your space - now…and no later than September 15. I’ll have a brochure ready for you next week if you would like one, get in touch: [email protected] If this interests you or your friends, let me know NOW as it's a Molly Cromwell Presents tour and I keep them manageable – that is, no more than 15 reservations will be taken.

I've also booking a date for a Grand Circle Travel 2015 cruise that I took a group on two years ago
and we had such a fabulous time, I’m heading back, I hope with you along. We cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg, fabulous trip, July 2-17, 2015. We’ll start out by celebrating our Independence Day, with the Stars and Stripes being hoisted on a Russian ship, with everyone singing the National Anthem….there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Seeing the beautiful Red Square, filled with tourists, not tanks , was surreal…the Moscow Circus delighted all of us…the Faberge exhibit and treasures of the Czars in the Kremlin are amazing, the small villages along the route are filled with regional crafts and great food….and St Petersburg is incredible! We’ll hit the Hermitage, Catherine Palace and all the other high points. Of course we’ll have opportunities to see a Russian ballet and musical productions, as well.

I’ve also blocked a date for our group on one of Grand Circle Travel’s newest trips… Romantic Alpine Villages – August 1-16, 2015 – visiting the charming towns and villages often overlooked in travel, from Italy to Austria, Germany and Switzerland…. bring your camera. I’ve always wanted to see Zermatt! There’s a Kodak moment ‘round every bend. You’ll really experience the culture and the people on this one – and be enchanted!

For the Holland trip, book with me. For Russia or the Alpine Adventure, reserve now with Grand Circle Travel, 1.800.597.2452, press 2 and give them our Group Code: G5 20068 and departure date… make your deposit and choose your cabin at the same time – you have a couple of weeks to change your mind, so if you only THINK you want to come, book it now to avoid disappointment.

We still have some cabins available for our wonderful Rhine River Christmas Markets Cruise from Amsterdam to Germany, France and Switzerland. December 2-13, 2014, but get moving and call this weekend....1 800 597 2452, press 2 and give the travel consultant our Group Code G4 20068 so you don't end up on the wrong cruise!!!! It's the most fun you can have during the holidays!

Several of the Netherlands finest artisans will be joining us in Amsterdam...bringing their wares to sell onboard and joining us for dinner.....Valerie Casson has designed a special holiday mannequin for a great optional workshop that you'll love - she'll be participating in our onboard mini miniatures show. If you're a dealer or closet mini crafter, bring your things to sell onboard!

Sylvia Leiner/Cinderella, will be joining us in Speyer accompanied by her wonderful mother, an accomplished painter. We will also visit a local miniatures collector there who is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. If you can spare the time, be sure to inquire about the pre and post cruise optional extensions....the pre is to Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp and a stop in Delft on the way to Amsterdam to board our ship....the post is in Basel, home of that internationally renowned museum of antique toys, teddys, dollhouses & room boxes (Nuremberg kitchens, plural, can you imagine!!), dolls and a shop you'll love.

All meals included, plus wine or soft drinks with lunch and dinner. Use Grand Circle Cruise Line's airfare or book your own, if you have un-used points from your gadding about!!!!!

No you won't be seasick, we're on a river, Dear Hearts!! No crashing waves. And we dress in layers, it's winter, after all, but I have NEVER needed long underwear. Caps/hats, gloves, yes - some years we've tromped around with jackets open....I have a wardrobe of sweat-pant-like fleece-lined slacks (no elastic at the ankle, like sweats have), that I have bought over the years at K Mart....other places have them, but K Mart is the cheapest...and they are so cuddly. I only wear these toasty black slacks...brand name, Ever Last. Topped with ageing Xmas sweaters and sweatshirts that my kids always made fun of....so NOW I'm able to celebrate the holiday season in retro style! Your lightweight things you can rinse out in your cabin. Or, there's always the ship's laundry. I save up several pair of slacks and give them to the ship's laundry to wash and dry, they do a great job.

This is a trip you and DH, best friend, sister, daughter...fill in the blank....MUST take sooner or later...and it might as well be with kindred spirits! Daniel Dammers is our Program Director....there is no one better in the WORLD! Our travelers rave about Daniel - he takes such good care of everyone in our group and as one traveler told me, "If I'd had this guy in school, I would have paid attention in History Class" - he is so knowledgeable and funny, as well!

If you're tied up this year but interested in travel in 2015, get back to me - 703 978-5353...I'm looking at several things... starting with the Netherlands International Dollhouse Show in March (actually, working on the itinerary now) that will include Hindeloopen (folk art center)...Palace Het Loo (summer palace of Wm and Mary, who later became King and Queen of England), Keukenhof Gardens, miniature shops, the Rijksmuseum, opened after a long renovation, and the Frans Hal Museum in Haarlem (wait until you see the historic Baby Houses in both places), the Madurodam - every important building in The Netherlands reduced in size that miniaturists love to visit) and more! If this interests you, let me know NOW as it's a Molly Cromwell Presents tour and I keep them manageable.

I'm also checking out a 2015 cruise that I took a group on two years ago and we loved it so much, I'm heading back - Moscow to St Petersburg, fabulous trip....and a new Grand Circle trip..Romantic .Alpine Villages, traveling from Italy to Austria, Germany and Switzerland - bring the camera....in July or August. Some of the dates for the new Alpine Villages trip are already filled...for 2015(I), so get cracking and decide where you'd like to go!!! If none of these float your boat, no pun intended, what are you up for?
