We are happy to share the latest installment in our ‘Speak Easy’ artist interview series featuring the incredibly brilliant and always entertaining Ernest Thompson.
A prolific lyricist, acclaimed playwright, actor, film director, novelist and inspiring writing mentor to many—just a few of his many roles—Thompson is never idle and seldom bored.
Best known for his original screenplay “On Golden Pond”—which was later adapted into the unforgettable 1981 blockbuster movie of the same name—Thompson has rightfully earned his place as a cultural contributor to American film history and his creativity knows no bounds.
This renaissance man continues to break boundaries, defying the odds and redefining creative multitasking, all while embracing the life of a conservationist—a life few people today would relish or intentionally choose given the fast-paced nature of the modern world.
Seamlessly weaving between his many passions—and God knows he has many—Thompson, like the late Salinger, calls the 'Live Free or Die' state his home.
His latest novel "Out Clause," a suspenseful thriller based on the premise that thousands of people intentionally go missing each year, sets the stage for an existential crisis many people wrestle with due to leading unfulfilled lives.
Central to the storyline is a fictional organization "Out Clause" (the novel's title), that allows people to disappear but with a catch and at a costly price.
They can escape their present lives and disappear without a trace, but they must say goodbye to the only life they've ever known and agree never to return.
Thompson embodies what living with purpose looks like, infusing his signature three Hs (heart, hope and humor) into everything he writes, directs and produces. ❤️🙏🤣
In "Archie Parish's Parting Words," a one-man-play written and performed by Thompson that is currently touring, Thompson stays true to his mantra as Archie Parish, a down-on-his-luck former marketing executive who finds a new calling delivering eulogies and he does not disappoint.
His new novel "Out Clause" debuts May 5th and is available at most major booksellers.
