theNate is open 365 days a year from dawn until dusk and is free of charge. Governors State University buildings hours are:
Campus Buildings
Open: Monday - Friday 6:00am to 10:30pm
Saturday 7:30am to 6:00pm
Sunday 12noon to 9:00pm

Welcome Center Desk
Open: Monday - Thursday 8:30am to 7:30pm, Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm

" at the Welcome Center Desk at the main entrance and can be easily accessed anytime that the campus buildings are open. Encounter major works by masters of contemporary sculpture at the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park. The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park is a collection of 30 master works of large-scale sculpture situated within 100 acres of prairie landscape. This “museum-in-the-prairie” is open for public viewing 365 days a year and is free of charge. The Park provides programs for adults and children that integrate art and nature. Although it is located on the campus of Governors State University, it was founded and is maintained through grants and donations from businesses and individuals. Located just 34 miles directly south of Chicago’s Loop business district and connected by a one-hour Metra train ride to the Millennium Park station, the park is easily accessible by train, automobile, or tour bus. Whether you are connecting to us from around the corner or around the world, we invite you to visit the park, feel the wind in your hair and the sun in your face and experience the nature of sculpture.

This sculpture has been on long-term loan and is now being donated to theNate by the artist. So, off it goes for the much needed conservation work and once completed, it will be installed at a more prominent location.

We rely on support from individuals, corporate sponsors, and organizations such as IAC. BIG THANKS to Illinois Arts Council for once again placing your trust and confidence in theNate to continue providing excellent art, education, and conservation (of the land and art). We just received news that a $15,000.00 general operating grant has been awarded to theNate for 2026.
Through our Outdoors@theNate school field trip program, the magic and wonder that is theNate, we present monumental masterworks in a thriving prairie setting. By remaining a FREE and open public resource, we are a rejuvenating destination for our visitors.
