We Came! We Saw! We Line Danced!
Big Thanks to Campovida forthe Fundraising Fun on August 14th

by Holly Madrigal

I could not stop grinning at the line dancing event hosted by Campovida a few weeks ago. Every second Friday, this Hopland winery hosts a community shindig led by line dance fitness instructor Mo Mulheren. You buy a glass of wine, chat for a bit, then head over to the barn to learn a few line dance “recipes” and shake off the cobwebs.

The gathering has a $10 cover charge that goes to a local organization or venture, and August’s was in support of Word of Mouth magazine. We’re not officially a non-profit, but like a lot of local businesses, the profits are slim to none, so Campovida’s owner, Anna Beuselinck, had graciously offered send the August funds our way.

What a great way to start the weekend! The fun music got boots tappin’ and blood flowin’. The fabulous glass of wine didn’t hurt, either. I chose the rosé, and it was crisp and perfect for the warm evening. I consider myself a line dancing novice, but Mo made it easy and welcoming. I spoke to some attendees who line dance regularly (you could tell them by their dancing expertise and fabulous cowboy boots!). Several shared that this is the best part of their week. "It gets me in the right headspace for the weekend," said one dancer. And even the people who had never done line dancing before had a great time.

Those with more experience generously whispered the steps under their breath to help those of us doing our best to keep up, and there was so much laughter. Apparently, newcomers are encouraged to be in the center of the dance floor because that way, when the combination turns you towards the opposite wall, you still have more experienced folks to follow without twisting your head and getting lost in the shuffle.

Make it a point to come next month and give it a try. Bonus: our group stopped for fabulous Thai food at Osha Thai after line dancing for a well-deserved meal while we rested our toes. The Stock Farm and The Golden Pig are great Hopland dinner options as well.

Thank you so much to Anna and her entire team for creating such a cool community event. And thank you Mo, for sharing your time and passion to start the weekend off right.
