Saturday Poetry with Lara 🍃

Saturday mornings have become a place for me to share my poetry with you, and I've realized that I want this space to hold more than just the poems I'm writing today.

So going forward, you may see three different kinds of Saturday poetry posts here:

New Poetry
These are poems I've written recently, often within a week or so of sharing them. They're new thoughts and words that are still finding their place in my journey as a writer.

From the Archives
These are poems I've written over the years, many long before I began sharing my poetry on social media. Most will be new to you, even though they may be decades old to me. When I can, I may also share approximately how old I was when I wrote them, offering a little glimpse into who I was at that time.

Behind the Poetry
Every so often, instead of simply sharing a poem, I'll share a little more about the poetry itself. This may include the inspiration behind a particular poem, the story or experience that led to it, where an idea came from, something about my life as a poet, or a reflection on the words and experiences that have shaped my writing.

I've been writing poetry through many seasons of my life, and I don't want to share only the words I'm writing now. There are years of poetry behind me and, I hope, many more still ahead.

Saturday feels like a lovely place to make room for all of it.

🌿 Peace That Stays

Peace can be easy to feel when life is going well. The greater challenge is holding onto it when circumstances change, answers don't come, or life takes a direction we never expected.

The peace God gives us is different. It isn't dependent upon everything around us being settled. It comes from knowing that even when life changes, He does not.

Peace that stays is the quiet assurance that we don't have to understand everything to trust God. We don't have to know what tomorrow holds to believe that He will meet us there.

There may still be worry. There may still be questions. There may even be moments when we have to find our way back to that peace again.

But God remains.

And sometimes that is all our hearts need to remember.

What could you place in God's hands today and allow His peace to hold instead?

Sometimes creating more ease isn't about doing more. It's about noticing where life has become unnecessarily complicated and choosing one small way to simplify it.

This week, give yourself permission to make something a little easier. 💚

✨New Poem, Saturday morning ✨

Boundaries are not walls. They are the quiet wisdom of knowing when to open the door, when to speak, and when to let silence speak for itself. 🌿

🌿 Living with Open Eyes

Open my eyes, Lord,

not simply
to what is before me,

but to what
You are showing me.

Help me see
the blessing
I have overlooked,

the person
who needs compassion,

the truth within myself
I may need to face,

and the path
You are quietly placing
before me.

Help me recognize
when disappointment
may actually be protection,

when waiting
may have a purpose,

and when an unexpected turn
may be leading me
somewhere I never thought to go.

Living with open eyes
doesn't mean
we understand everything.

It means we are willing
to pay attention.

To listen.

To notice.

To trust that God
may be revealing something
we could not see before.

Lord, give us eyes
not only to look,

but to truly see.

What might God be trying
to show you
that you haven't stopped
long enough to see?

Big changes often begin with one small step. You don't have to see the whole path ahead. Sometimes you simply have to choose the next step and begin. 💚

What small step could you take this week?

✨New Poem, Saturday morning ✨

Love has its own rhythm. Sometimes, when two hearts simply fit, the rest of the world seems to fall away. ❤️

🌿 The Quiet Work of Hope

Hope doesn't always arrive with great fanfare. More often, it works quietly within us, gently strengthening our hearts one day at a time.

There are seasons when we can't yet see what God is doing. Answers seem delayed, doors remain closed, and progress feels almost invisible. Yet even in those moments, hope continues its quiet work.

Hope reminds us that God's timing is never wasted. It teaches us to trust when we cannot see the whole picture and to believe that He is preparing what we cannot yet understand.

Like a seed growing beneath the soil, much of God's work happens where our eyes cannot see it. Though hidden for a time, it is never without purpose.

When we choose hope, we choose to believe that God is still at work, even in the silence. And one day, what has been quietly growing will begin to bloom.

Where have you seen the quiet work of hope in your own life?

There are only so many hours in a day, and every "yes" we give is also a "no" to something else.

Sometimes making space for what matters most begins with the courage to set a gentle boundary. Saying "no" isn't about pushing people away. It's about protecting the time, energy, and peace that allow us to show up more fully for the things that truly matter.

As you begin this new week, take a moment to reflect.

What is one thing you could say "no" to this week so you can say "yes" to what matters most?

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. 💚
