Mark your calendars for September 27th to visit Unbroken before the Tucson Slam Poetry event. This will be an inspiring day at The Coalition Space.

UNBROKEN is coming to Tucson!

On September 27, I’m joining my good friend Alex Schotten, creator of Lifted Poets Society, for an intimate afternoon of portraiture, storytelling, and spoken word at The Coalition Space.

Our connection goes back years. I knew Alex’s family before he found recovery, and last year we had the opportunity to share the stage at RISE12. Now, I get to watch him use his story and his voice to create space for others—and bring our work together in Tucson.

The growing Unbroken gallery will be presented alongside Lifted Poets Society’s monthly spoken word event, bringing visual and spoken stories together in one powerful experience.

Unbroken began with my son, Gavyn, but his story continues to open the door for others. It has become a living, growing space where grief, survival, recovery, and responsibility can be named out loud.

Throughout the afternoon, I’ll also be conducting on-site interviews and collecting new stories from people whose lives have been impacted by overdose.

Because these stories deserve more than silence.

They deserve to be seen.
They deserve to be heard.
They deserve to move us toward action.

Yikes! How did I forget to post the Slam info? My apologies.

This month is all about getting to know each other. We will be doing a "mingle" Instead of a featured poet. Can't wait to meet you...Poetry Slam Mom will be manning the check in table, so stop in for a mom hug (on request as I respect your personal space).

The rules to compete are simple:

*Poets will compete in 1 to 3 rounds (be prepared with 3 poems) with scoring to determine round 2 and 3 competitors
*No props, costumes, or other materials not available to all posts are allowed
*No hate speech, disruptive behavior or nudity (respect each other)
*3 minute maximum with a 10 second grace period (.5 deducted for every 10 seconds over)

Register to compete in the bio of on Instagram (signups without access to Instagram can be sent to [email protected])

🎶 Happy Anniversary Tucson Slam Poetry 🎶

It has been ONE year since Tucson Slam poets stepped on the stage and we are so grateful for all those who have shared their words with us. It only seems fitting to have one of our founding members as our featured poet this month...Dezzy!

Dezzy is a spoken word artist, community builder, and one of our organizers. Originally from East LA, she found her voice in the desert (La Vegas NV) and her purpose in Tucson. Her mission in life is to create spaces where people can just be who they are and exist as their authentic self.
