I guess it's time for an update on the Horatio/Eagle. I've gotten a few things done between gaming breaks. She's definitely coming along. Slowly, but surely.

Okay, while staring at my computer, trying to come up with something to do, it hit me. Maybe I should finally break out a rebuild I started on my Horatio Class Cruiser.

Now, for those who like lore, the Horatio Class is meant to be a big leap forward in deep-space exploration vessel design in my little alternate universe. Starfleet R&D are so confident in the design the first two ships start construction simultaneously. Hull number 955, "Horatio", and hull number 956, "Eagle." Construction begins in 2227 and is slated to take 4 years.

Captain John Stanton, my main character, is placed in charge of Eagle's construction. He and his lead engineer immediately notice several issues with the design. There are several structural deficiencies in the Spaceframe, and the EPS grid is a mess. Stanton requests permission to fix the issues before construction goes too far, but is shot down. Not one to follow the rules, he decides to fix them anyway.

Launch day rolls around. Both Horatio and Eagle are set to launch within minutes of each other. Horatio never fully departs her construction gantry. Once her systems are put under load, she just craps out. Eagle, on the other hand, departs and begins her first warp tests without incident. Three months later Eagle will finish her trials and be accepted into service wearing the hull number NCC-956. Horatio will be towed out of her berth to a nearby salvage yard. The issues with the EPS systems deemed far to costly to repair.

U.S.S. Eagle would go on several long-term exploration missions with Captain Stanton in the center seat. In 2242 she would return home to undergo a moderate refit. Not long after, she would serve with distinction during the Four Years War against the Klingon Empire. Both ship and captain earn an impressive reputation within the Empire. At war's end, Starfleet is faced with a choice. Scrap her, refit her as-is, or convert her into a new Constitution Class starship. A design she helped inspire. The choice is obvious.

So, my idea, since I have a new Constitution, is to adapt the original to fill in the role of the Horatio Class. I'm making some changes, for sure. Shorter Engineering hull. Smaller nacelles. She'll also be more detailed than the OG with maybe a bit more of an NX flair. Below is a mess of renders I've done so far. The very last one is my previous Horatio model. I was chasing the Disco/SNW Connie feel at the time. Okay, my fingies hurt... Too much typing. lol

Now for something semi-different. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to try to do tonight. I ran through a dozen ideas and none of them stuck. Then it hit me. Eventually I want to do some combat animations with my Constitution and even my Horatio when I get her rebuilt. So, I'm going to need Sounds. While I liked the OG phasers from TOS, I tend to like the sounds from TNG/DS9/Voy better. Though the one I really wanted was from the Defiant scenes in "In a Mirror Darkly" from Enterprise. It was a nice blend of the OG and TNG effects. So, here I am trying to mix something close using samples I got from Trekcore.com. I had a decent mix, but I decided to add a little more punch to it by beefing up some bass and bringing down some of the higher tones. Here's hoping it sounds good to y'all too.

An impressively rough "animation". Just playing around with my Reimagined Constitution. Really low samples so I didn't have to wait a month so a bit jittery. I made my starstreaks a bit brighter, but I think I made them too bright this time. lol It never ends.

Well, crap. It's been a minute since I posted anything on here. I'm not really sure why either. I guess I 'm going to have to break down and catch this page up a bit. Maybe. Either way, here's something new.

While I had my reimagined Constitution in dock, I figured I'd add some more detail bits to make her fit in even more with Chris Kuhn's TMP drydock. I'm liking the results.

Utopia Planitia Yards, Mars. 29 May 2248.
U.S.S. Eagle NCC-956.

Eagle is in the final days of her massive conversion. Nearly a year after the end of what would be dubbed "The Four Years War" with the Klingon Empire, she is almost settled into her new configuration. Once the one and only Horatio Class Cruiser, she will soon be rechristened as a member of the new Constitution Class.

Experimenting with a "physical model " look for my 304. Not sure it's quite right, but I like the look anyway.

Just playing around with rendering my 304 like a physical model. I don't think I have the light quite right, but I still like how it looks.
