A Symphony of Crickets is a music and spoken word performance based on the poetry of award-winning African American writer & musician Charles Coe. Coe will read selected works with musical interludes performed by an all-star 5-piece ensemble of outstanding musicians and vocalists. With a wide ranging song list inspired by the text of the poems, the music will traverse jazz, funk, r&b, delta blues,

and even classical styles, strung together in a seamless sequence outlining in words and tones the breadth of the American musical experience. Coe, the performers will include noted songwriter & guitarist Mark van Bork and internationally acclaimed composer & saxophonist/flautist Ken Field, along with vocalist Darlene van Alstyne, bassist Blake Newman, and drummer Phil Neighbors. We are grateful for the support of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. Performances will take place on Cape Cod, Massachusetts starting in the summer of 2022. SAVE THE DATE: Happy to announce that after two seasons on Cape Cod, "Cricket Symphony", will make its first appearance in the Boston Area at Arts at the Armory in Somerville, Mass. on Tuesday, November 12th at 7pm, with new material. Advance tickets, $20 ($25 at the door.)

Charles Coe on vocals, Ken Field on sax and flute, Tad Price on guitar, Blake Newman on bass, and Phil Neighbors on drums and percussion.

Charles Coe's Cricket Symphony is finally coming to the Boston area Tuesday November 12th at Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA!

Charles Coe's Cricket Symphony is a program of poetry & music based on the poetry of award-winning African American writer & musician Charles Coe, with music including original compositions by Ken Field. Coe will read selected works with musical interludes performed by an ensemble of outstanding instrumentalists led by Field/sax & flute, and including Blake Newman/bass, Phil Neighbors/drums, Tad Price/guitar. With a wide-ranging song list inspired by the poetry, the program features jazz, gospel, pop, Americana, funk, and improvisation. Together, the words and music pay homage to the breadth of the American musical experience.

After two successful seasons on Cape Cod, the current presentation features all-new poetry and music. The performances of the original Symphony of Crickets received great public response:
