I spent Friday - Sat, 20 hours of applying layers upon layers of Terra-sig to this Octowarrior. Now it spends a week of drying so it will be safe for the bisque firing in the gas Kiln. The most nerve racking part, the waiting....my largest piece, the most complicated but well thought out design... Will it handle the bisque, will it handle the Cone 10, and be ready in late October for the Alien Octopodes: The Arrival show...? Updates will be coming

Project Prototype 1, some experimental mugs, and "I am right" vase was loaded into the wood fire kiln at Baltimore Clayworks. I did the first shift of the firing process for the first time and was taught about how the firing process works in the kiln. So much goes into this type of community firing, from hard work, patience, more hard work, 24 hours of volunteers doing shifts, waiting 5 days to unload and finally more work cleaning for the next one. Looking forward to Thursday, results will be like Christmas or a Halloween disaster, but great risks has great rewards. Krystal Thomas

Prototype 2 for Octowarriors is in full swing, despite several drafts, sketches and planning this octopod out, he has become quite a sizeable undertaking. This will be my largest sculptural piece to date. Today I finished the sculpting, getting ready for the Terra-Sigillata coats. It has been a rough week. What is it about grief that brings out some of the best art work out of us? It has seemed impossible to shake the dark cloud this time around, yet somehow clay seems to be the answer, therapy in it's purest form. Krystal Thomas

Project Prototype 1 still in the early stages, really excited about this project I am currently working on. Alien Octopodes is in a continous evolution as I learn more, I push even more and the investigation continues... A story that grows in depth, detail, and becoming it's own little world as I begin my final year of my BFA.
