The CORE Org is back in creative partnership with MCOZ and Newport Community Schools for another year of after school enrichment. MCOZ schools meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and we serve three schools: Aquidneck, Forest Ave and Gaudet.
Pell Elementary meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Thompson Middle School meets on Wednesdays. Ashley Aadland-Lessa-you are all set with your littles! We are seeking teaching artists to design and teach after school programming - CORE provides all the materials and supplies needed. We offer a competitive hourly rate. All teaching artists under RI Law must have a current background check in place. Interested creatives are invited to email Gloria Crist at [email protected] Sessions begin in October 2026 and run through June 2027.

Programs run twice a week from September 2026-April 2027
Teaching artists are welcome to design and implement arts modalities of their choice.
Hourly rate is competitive.
CORE provides all supplies.

I’m so excited (and a little emotional) to share something very close to my heart… ✨
My debut children’s book, *MamaOak and the Seasons of Grief*, is here. 🌿💛. She is here!!! It's been an absolute joy to work on this book with
Aubrey McConnell who created the cover and all the illustrations.
This story follows CC, a young girl learning how to navigate the loss of her father with the help of nature, art, and a wise old tree named Mama Oak. Told through the changing seasons, it’s a gentle reminder that grief is not something we “get over”—but something we learn to carry, with love.
This book was written for children, families, educators, and anyone walking through loss. My hope is that it offers comfort, language, and a sense of connection—especially when feelings are hard to name.
🌱 A very special book launch unfolds on August 21st at Camp Braveheart as we honor their 20th season supporting children through grief. We’ll share a reading, create art together, and hold space for healing.
What makes this extra special is also announcing we are the recipient of an Arts and Health Incubator Grant from
RISCA - Rhode Island State Council on the Arts opening up opportunities for workshops, art making and community conversations about art in the health sector in specific locations throughout Rhode Island. Stay tuned for so much more information as we announce book tours, signings, appearances and much more! I cannot wait for you all to meet CC, MamaOak and all the woodland creatures.

Cooler weather arrives in time to kick off our summer success program today in Newport! CORE will be implementing the arts/STEM block for the next four weeks of reading, science, math and writing comprehension! Looking forward to the creative vibes!

We are seeking a teaching artist for our summer success program in Newport! Teaching artist will be creating with students in grades 5-8. One age group meets on Mondays and the other age group meets on Wednesdays for a total of 2 hours/week. Classes take place on the Salve campus July 6-July 29th. Feel free to design and implement multi modality arts offerings- everything can stay on site for the month opening up possibilities for larger scale projects needing time to dry. I always look at this time of year in complete awe and admiration for the many ways we are able to creatively connect with so many students throughout Newport and Bristol Counties. This school year of creating has been another extraordinary opportunity to do what we do best- with an amazing team of teaching artists-and our intern partnership with RWU/SHEA School. All year round programs end on June 8th-and our summer success program begins on July 6th. Check in with your Summer Success coordinator if you have not yet registered.
