This is the third mural I’ve painted for these particular wonderful clients. I’m often commissioned because, as my motto goes, “Nobody wants to look at a wall.” Look closely at the reflections in the glass sliders, and you’ll see a lovely pool and a beautiful lot.
What an honor to be hired to paint another mural for clients who already have such a gorgeous view!

This one is a bit of a departure from the norm. But much like the symbolism in a red cardinal, the Monarch Butterfly is enormously special to my client.

MURALS BY DEBBIE

Mural paintings are more in line with what I’m most known for at this point in at this point in life. Some clients prefer very bright and colorful work, others desire a softer palette. The goal is to match the artwork to that which appears in my client’s “mind’s eye.”
Pictured here is a driveway mural that I painted using a softer more subdued palette. Notice the striking contrast to one with a similar composition, depicting a much brighter palette, (pictured below, under comments.)
Just curious, which palette do you prefer… more colorful or subdued?

My latest piece for a wonderful and faithful client!

Most often, painting on location is synonymous with a Mural. However, as previously mentioned, that’s not always the case.
This Bar, before applying a single brush stroke, was already a top quality piece of furniture - weighing a ton! Therefore, it was necessary that I paint it on location in my client, Barb Miller’s, beautiful home.

Immediately upon entry, was quite the trip down memory lane. Barb has commissioned me to paint a number of pieces through the years. I tease that she “keeps me on retainer,” because with each project I paint, Barb has another waiting in the wings!

Barb is one of my very first clients since moving from home (Tybee Island.) As the saying goes; “where everybody knew my name, to a totally new place and a complete unknown.” Always spreading the word about my work, Barb is one of my greatest supporters!

Thank you so much Barb Miller for your patronage and support! There is no greater compliment to an artist, than to have multiple pieces of one’s work adorning such a beautiful home!

These days, I am mostly known for my murals. For decades, however, my commissions were predominantly painted on canvas.

MURALS BY DEBBIE
My client was inspired by another driveway mural that I previously painted; it featured a great blue heron in the composition. However, she preferred a large white egret instead. I intensified the “setting sun” so the egret would really “pop.”
Thankfully, my client is delighted with the results! What do you think of this one?

Finally finished some work that folks have been anxiously awaiting on for an extraordinarily long time! Pictured here, are some “Before” and “After” shots of just one of them!

Two very recent driveway murals. This is a first for me; two murals, commissioned by two different couples that just so happened to be on the same street. Since they were both booked separately, months ago, I didn’t realize they were in the same neighborhood - much less on the same street!
I painted the four palm mural first. When I arrived all prepared to paint their neighbors’ (the second mural,) they told me they had seen their neighbors’ and decided they too wanted a “sun” incorporated into their mural - but a sunrise scene since that’s the view from their house.
I must admit, it was quite a departure from their original composition request, but once I wrapped my head around it - and most importantly got into their “mind’s eye,” I was able to paint a mural that they both really liked. It was pure “Music to my artist ears,” when she said; “Debbie, it’s your Best work ever!” Not sure that’s true, but it’s absolutely the way I hope all my clients feel when their job is done!

As an artist...
I’m Blessed to do what I Love, and to have the most wonderful clients!
My clients, Pat & Ken, are overjoyed with their driveway mural! With glistening eyes, Pat says; “Oh my gosh, I’m so happy with this mural. I’m about to cry... and I don’t tear up easily!”
Music to my artist ears! 😊👩‍🎨

Here are the “Before & After,” as well as some work in process, shots of my latest work.
Nobody wants to look at a wall! Even if you’ve got the exquisite view my clients Phil and Judy enjoy every day! Phil and Judy commissioned me to paint murals on they’re “slider” walls. I’m delighted to report that they’re thrilled with the end result! What do you think?

The most difficult part, of any commission, is getting into a client’s “mind’s eye!” This was a tough one; not the act of painting the mural in and of itself, but in achieving clarity of my client’s vision!
It took several “mock ups” (samples,) as you can see here, before I fully understood. My client, a graphic artist, provided me with an initial graphic from which to start. Initially, I saw a bright sunset, but FINALLY realized she saw a very subtle, bright day with a blue sky! Often, there’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scene before ever touching a brush to the canvas, wall, driveway etc!
Once my client and I have the same “vision,” in my mind, the painting is done! It’s just a matter of solidifying it in “paint!”

Who says “you can’t turn a Sow’s ear into a Silk purse?!”

Here’s another job where I’ve been called in to “”fix,” so to speak, an unfortunate accident. Who says “you can’t turn a Sow’s ear into a Silk purse!”
Look closely at the bottoms of the exterior vinyl moulding pieces, in the “Before & After” collage pictured below. They were accidentally ruined (melted) by a blow torch! This one was a real challenge; Lordy was I “spent” by the end of this job! But what a feeling of satisfaction; My clients are thrilled, and needless to say, therefore I am too!

Who says “you can't turn a Sow's ear into a Silk purse?!”

Yesterday began as a typical day; I arrived at my client’s, prepared to paint a “palm themed” driveway mural. My clients had chosen a similar composition to several I had previously painted. Before I started to paint, however, they pointed out a disastrous situation that had recently occurred with some of their exterior, vinyl moulding.
A contractor they had hired, for some additional work on their home, had a new guy on the job. The poor fellow came way too close to the house with a “torch,” which resulted in ruining (melting) the bottoms of several pieces of their exterior moulding!
Naturally, my clients, the contractor, and the poor fellow who created the “nightmare” were all devastated by the unintentional and most unfortunate accident!
The contractor told my clients that he would, of course, pay for the replacement of the damaged moulding, to please just obtain an estimate or two. My clients followed his instructions, but were astounded by what they deemed as an exorbitant cost for the “fix!” They really hated to have to relay the info, and genuinely felt for the contractor who was going to get saddled with such an expense!
In my work, though both physically and mentally taxing, I’ve found that I sort of enjoy the challenge of “turning a Sow’s ear into a Silk purse!” Thus, I showed my client’s some pictures of other jobs where I had been able to do so, and asked them if they would like me to give it a shot? We discussed some ideas I had, and they decided to let me run with it!
Here is a video of the finished product followed by some “before and after shots.” Be sure to look closely at the bottoms of the vinyl moulding pieces pictured.
Lol, as usual I was totally worn out, but felt a great satisfaction in the knowledge that both my clients and the contractor were exceedingly happy with the outcome!

DRIVEWAY MURAL PHASE ll
My client loved her painted driveway, with the Palm mural in the center. However, she really disliked the “diamond” designs on the left and right corners of her driveway. She hired me back to transform the corners into “Art.” Her husband loves pelicans; you can see one in flight if you look closely at the center palm mural.
My client is thrilled with the addition of the pelicans on posts! Here are some “Before & After” shots. What do you think of this one?

“2020” A Year in Review...

Well looking back, it was a busy year! Folks spent more time in their homes, so they chose to add “Art” to their lives to bring a sense of cheer to an otherwise bleak year!

Many Thanks to my wonderful clients! Wishing everyone a Very Healthy & Happy New Year!

Thank you Cindy Cain for your patience! After a long delay, due to problems with my painting hand, I FINALLY got this furniture piece finished! The piece was already painted nicely, in shabby chic, fashion. Cindy just wanted it “artfully” painted with Sandhill Cranes.

I finally started back painting, after a six week hiatus, due to some physical limitations as a result of overworking my painting hand! This was a much smaller job, comparatively speaking. How do you like this particular driveway mural?
