On days when you receive a rejection letter you want to stay in bed and Brood. It is as if rejection is synonymous with =not good enough!
On those days especially Make your bed, read the books suggested as inspiration, shower, do your errands and look again for other opportunities.
In 2022 I completed my second poetry manuscript Nothing in Isolation. I 2025 retried from my main bread and butter job as a government employee. Since then I have appeared in multiple anthologies, won a grant, was recognized by fellow artist, had an exhibition of Shell Art and held featured readings across the city. For the second time I will be reading The Va**na Monologues with a phenomenal group of sister-author creatives. I say this to remind me that rejection is not everything though it stings like a slap. Nothing in Isolation will find a home. As Babel moves into her 20th anniversary in 2027, I lean into the fact that in 2007 the landscape of publishing was very different. I never submitted Babel to a publisher. I chose Print on Demand after many hours of researching Publishing methods. Many tried to discourage me from self publishing. I became an Indie publisher before the landscape embraced self publishing. It seems the landscape while changing still makes choices that authors must bare and cope with! I’ve begun collaborating with ChatGpt though I hear the opposition murmuring.
