NWU and DCWP Host FIF Webinar

Thursday, March 10 7:00pm EST/4:00pm Pacific

NWU and the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protections (DCWP) will host a webinar on the NYC Freelance Isn't Free (FIF) law, how it works, what it has achieved, and a chance for us to talk about FIF in NY State and Los Angeles. Here is the registration link:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd3VAPfNOqNZqmuxfI2SYxTyz60Avd0MHBlZA5QFydbsyTccQ/viewform

Since its inception in 2017, the FIF law has collected more than $2.1 billion in fees owed to freelancers.

In December 2021, working in conjunction with NWU, NYC filed a lawsuit against L'Officiel USA, charging them with a "pattern and practice" of non-payment and violating FIF. For the first time, the case has grouped more than two dozen freelancers together, seeking a $25,000 fine and $100,000 in owed fees. Some of these invoices go back to 2017!
