Last night our AAZK chapter was invited to a behind the scenes tour at the New York Aquarium! It was an exciting evening that included an above viewing of their enormous shark-filled tank, a private sea lion training session, a penguin keeper talk, and a beautiful firework display as an added bonus. Thank you to all of our memebers that made the trip and a huge thank you to the New York Aquarium for having us - not to mention the New York City AAZK for inviting our crew to a memorable night!!

Calling all AAZK Chapters! Did you know that you can host a regional conference? Here's a quick (and easy!) checklist on how to start the process:
1. Submit a Letter of Interest Packet to Ed Hansen which contains:
a. A Letter of Interest (LOI) to host an AAZK Regional Conference designated by stated year that is signed by current AAZK Chapter Officers.
b. The LOI shall list AAZK Chapter Officers by title in the Chapter and their
membership status within the Association.
c. The LOI should also address the number of conferences the officers of the
Chapter and/or the potential Conference Committee have previously hosted
and/or attended.
d. The LOI should also contain all current and pertinent contact information for
the Chapter Officer signing the Letter.
2. A list of current AAZK Chapter members.
3. A current bank account statement from the financial institution detailing the funds on account and held by the AAZK Chapter.
4. A letter of support from the potential Host Institution(s), signed by the CEO or equivalent.
5. Letters of support from any other recognized organization within your community, pertinent to the hosting of a conference (Chamber of Commerce or similar entity).
6. An estimate of cost associated with lodging (per night) projected for the calendar year of the regional conference.
*All the information needed to submit an inquiry can be found in AAZK's Operation Manual AD 7.03-1.
Several AAZK chapters have successfully hosted regional conferences. If your AAZK Chapter has a passion for professional development start the process today!

Zoophoria is a blog that aims to connect visitors with the accomplishments of America's best zoos and inspire them to care about animal welfare and conservation. The Bronx Zoo is frequently mentioned as an example of zoological excellence and has been honored as the best at exhibiting several species including lemurs and baboons. It will continued to be discussed in more posts to come!
