Paradise Winds traveled to Arkansas last week and had a wonderful visit all around!

At the University of Central Arkansas, we worked with Dr. Paul Dickinson’s fantastic composition students and led a lively masterclass with the student reed quintet. We also performed a fun recital in their gorgeous concert hall.

We loved spending time with the students at Conway High School as well — thoughtful, engaged, and full of great questions.

Thank you to Kelly Johnson for the invitation and for taking such good care of us. Stay warm, Arkansas!

To mark Calefax’s 40th anniversary, Michel van der Aa composed LINK.

Our recording was part of 40 videos by 40 ensembles worldwide, released daily and culminating in the Reed Festival in Amsterdam last month.

Here’s the complete final movement, filmed in the beautiful backyard of Juan and Rosa Concepcion. We hope to LINK the planet through music, one reed quintet at a time.

That’s a wrap on our PW Amsterdam trip! Thank you, Calefax, Fie, and Eddy and Ties, for having us. It was an inspiring, fulfilling, and truly beautiful trip. Special shout-out to Bonson for coming along and enduring all our chaos and goofiness. Thanksgiving may be over, but we’re endlessly grateful for the opportunities to make music with beautiful souls and to meet wonderful people along the way. 🧡

Thank you, Fie, for having us at your amazing bass clarinet festival—what a venue! An improv-heavy concert inside a working metal art factory in Amsterdam, plus an incredibly engaged crowd… we never dreamed we could be this cool!

10 reed quintets + guest soloists= one massive reed orchestra. We performed a selection of movements from Circusmuziek, a piece so many reed quintets have played since the very beginning. The sheer power of that many incredible reed players together was truly incredible.

And the highlight: our very own Joey K, front row with Calefax, ripped the dirtiest, most epic bassoon improv solo!

We are so honored to have taken part in celebrating Calefax’s 40th anniversary in Amsterdam last week. They started it all! Being surrounded by Calefax and so many brilliant reed-quintet friends from around the world was simply incredible and a dream come true. It was truly inspiring to listen, learn, and connect with both fellow musicians and an enthusiastic audience. Thank you, , and your amazing team for hosting such an incredible event!
