This weekend, a group of improvisers will be forming a band for ONE NIGHT ONLY. They will create music that has never been heard before and will never be heard again, so don’t miss out on the chance to hear these one of a kind hits!

Do you constantly have the urge to burst into song during an improv scene? Are you scarily good at rhyming or want to improve your rhyming skills?

Join us on June 28th from 12-3 for a musical improv workshop! Lead by Kat Schelonka and Jack Patten—two musical improv experts from Seattle’s Unexpected Productions—this workshop will cover the fundamentals of musical improv. We’ll explore game of the scene and musical narrative devices as well as rhyming and rhythm tools!

No singing experience is necessary, but some improv experience is suggested.

The Six Voices: Expanding Your Character Through Vocal Qualities
With Sal Frattallone, Go Before You’re Ready Improv
Sunday, June 14 | 1:00–3:30 PM Lumora Art Lab | Downtown Tacoma $30
Your voice is one of the most powerful tools for creating memorable characters on stage. In this interactive 2½-hour workshop, you’ll explore six distinct vocal qualities that can instantly transform your character work and open up new comedic and dramatic possibilities:
• Strident
• Nasal
• Denasal
• Broad
• Hoarse
• Fry
Through guided exercises, partner work, and improvised scenes, you’ll learn how each vocal quality affects character, status, emotion, and point of view. We’ll practice each quality individually before moving into scene work where you’ll discover how vocal choices can inspire stronger characters and more dynamic interactions.
Once you’ve built familiarity with all six qualities, we’ll begin mixing and blending them together to create richer, more unique character voices that feel playable, sustainable, and authentic.
Whether you’re an improviser, actor, storyteller, or public speaker, this workshop will help you expand your vocal range, make bolder character choices, and bring new life to your performances.
No prior voice training required. All experience levels welcome.
