SU WiA wishes everyone happy pride month🏳️‍🌈 We would like to acknowledge during this time the movement and how pride would not be where it is today without the efforts of Marsha ‘Pay it No Mind’ Johnson.

Marsha was a transgender woman, performer, HIV positive AIDS activist, and was a co-founder of STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries). She is most well known for her role in the “anti-policing riots at Stonewall Inn in 1969, this was a watershed event for the gay liberation movement”.

We would like to remind everyone to be conscious of the art, film, and media they consume. To be aware of who is making the content, why are they creating the work (purpose and intent), who is assisting in the work/ being documented or highlighted, and who is ultimately benefitting from it. All of this and more is important in being a consumer of media.
