Flight sim ATC networks are a real community, not just a feature bolted on. IVAO France runs a Full Staff event at Rennes Saint-Jacques (LFRN) this Saturday, Sept 26 — full controller coverage from ground through center, open to anyone flying IFR or VFR that evening.

Nobody's paid to sit in that seat for hours. They show up because the network only works if people do — same instinct we want in Odyssey's community.

Big one for the EAA homebuilder crowd: the FAA just revised Order 8130.2 (Rev M) — Phase I flight testing for experimental aircraft no longer comes with a government-assigned test area. Builders can now test anywhere that satisfies 14 CFR §91.305 — sparse population, minimal traffic. More freedom, but the FAA's clear: you own that airspace call now.

This weekend the Ozarks turned into a chain of fly-in breakfasts — Woodring Regional in Enid, Haskell Airport, Carroll County in Berryville, Grider Field in Pine Bluff, Valley Airpark in Cotter, eggs and pancakes for about $10 a plate. Up on Petit Jean Mountain, the annual fly-in pulled in a whole ramp of RVs — no reason needed beyond a mountain, a runway, and company. That's grassroots — nobody's paying you to show up. The Midwest Aviation Expo in Mount Vernon, Illinois had a rough year — weather kept fly-ins away, a few regular exhibitors skipped it, marketing didn't reach enough people. It survived anyway, because enough of the community still showed up.

Tomorrow's the 12th Annual International Girls in Aviation Day — is spotlighting two chapters ahead of it. Women in Aviation International's program reached 33,000+ girls across 194 events in 33 countries last year, with roughly 35,000 signed up this time. Northern Planes in Moorhead, MN is showing kids airport ops up close, and San Diego is handing out $40,000 in scholarships with about 70 volunteers.

This is the kind of week that makes me miss a home field with a full EAA-chapter calendar. Grimes Field in Urbana, Ohio just wrapped its 58th Mid-Eastern Regional Fly-In, and this Fri-Sat closes Aviation Heritage Week with the Hot Air Affair balloon festival — evening launches, balloon glows, the works.

We're so close... Odyssey Command is nearing . Telemetry is flowing from the client, missions are being generated, and I'm spending the weekend preparing the Windows client for distribution. Testing begins next week.
