Many of you have asked for this photo, and now it’s available as a print and greeting card!
Personally, it’s my favorite.
Clarence was my granny’s cousin, and his home sits on the property where my great-great-grandparents settled after immigrating from Sweden. The original dovetail cottage, built from hand-hewn logs, is still standing and will one day, Lord willing, be restored into a usable home.
Clarence was a bachelor who spent his years faithfully stewarding what God had given him, especially his home and property. He passed away at 97 years old, still cutting his own firewood, and left a legacy of faithful devotion to his Lord. He loved the people in his life well and never counted what he had as his own, but as a gift from God meant to be shared.
Today, Clarence’s Place is in the care of my grandparents. They rent Clarence’s house as an Airbnb, make pure maple syrup from the virgin maple trees on the property, and occasionally take family and friends on one of Clarence’s sleigh rides—always with a stop by the fire in the woods for homemade cookies and hot cocoa.
When you drove up Clarence’s driveway and caught sight of the red barn, it felt like coming home. It still does today.
