Valley Japanese Community Center

Valley Japanese Community Center Our mission is to preserve and further the timeless cultural traditions, which is our legacy by gene New classes in yoga and chair yoga are also offered.

After being released from various relocation centers, Issei Pioneers settling in the Eastern San Fernando Valley saw a need for a centralized gathering place. this would serve as a cultural resource of civic and community events thus adding to the already rich cultural diversity of the area. Valley Japanese Community Center was first established in 1952 as a non-profit corporation. We strive to pr

eserve and perpetuate our Japanese American heritage and cultural experience. It is noteworthy that our Japanese Language School under the Kyodo System is one of the oldest operating institutions in the Los Angeles County. One of the first organizations formed under Los Angeles Hompa Hongwanji buddhist Temple was Valley Buddhist Temple. We are proud to offer diverse classes, clubs and activities to enrich the Japanese-American culture of the community. Martial arts classes in Judo and Kendo are currently being offered. Other cultural offerings are Shigin (Japanese poetry, Tea Ceremony, Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy) and Taiko. You must be a Community Center member to participate. The ever popular, Shiatsu is one service offered at a discounted rate for anyone in the community. The second Friday of each month is set aside for Community Center Cabinet meetings. We have an open door policy and are always open to suggestions for improvements in all areas. Please contact us for further information or if you would just like to get involved.

5/9/2026 our center hosted a kimono and accessories event. We had many other vendors participating as well offering their own creative and unique items for sale. An onigiri and cold udon sale was also available raising funds for our center. We need to update our buildings so we may serve our community better. Thank you to Japanology Fair and Yoshiko Kawada for coordinating everything!
