Summerville High School is excited to announce the hiring of Levi Riser as its new Associate Director of Bands. Riser just recently graduated with his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Furman University in May 2026.
Riser brings a strong record of leadership and instructional experience. At Furman University, he was selected as Drum Major of the Paladin Regiment for the 2025–2026 academic year. In addition, he has served as an adjunct marching band instructor and visual technician at multiple high schools, where he taught marching fundamentals, led sectionals, and contributed to show design.
His experience also includes work as a jazz camp counselor and ensemble assistant, supporting large-scale events and mentoring younger musicians, as well as performing as a tenor saxophonist with regional groups and festivals. Riser is successfully completed his student teaching internship at R.C. Edwards Middle School and D.W. Daniel High School, where he was actively directing ensembles and planning rehearsals.
As Associate Director, Riser will support Mr. Michael Shiverdecker, Director of Bands, and assist with all aspects of the Summerville High School band program, while helping continue the program’s strong tradition of leadership and musical excellence.
