Iron and Tannin natural dye workshop... or...On how to die//dye with the woods. Here is a weird slurry of materials prep for this weekend's natural dye process workshop .hive.collective

I need at least 2 more people to sign up for this class to run and make it worth all the effort to share this process. If you've been thinking about it, please please go to http://arthive.art to register ASAP!

I'd be so grateful if you could share with anyone who might be interested. We'll dive deep into rich material metaphors and interspecies dimensions , navigate all the nitty gritty details of the natural dye process, and experiment with wild/feral color and deconstruction.

Workshop fee is $75 and helps support the existence of not one but TWO grassroots art/community initiatives. THIS Saturday and Sunday from 1-4pm in Staunton.

Excited to be playing our first show in harrisonburg next month! We will have bids from Richmond as well locals joining us for a night of high energy and theater! now has its own account! So go check that out and follow along. I just posted some fun reels from a set Taylor and I performed .fest this past summer in the pouring rain 🥳 this world is a messed up place but building community around art and self reliance feels like one path you can’t go wrong walking down. So much love for all of the support we have in our freaky little mountain and valley community ❤️❤️

Early spring workshop offering! We are stoked to partner again with .hive.collective to offer a natural dye workshop the weekend of Feb 24 and 25! We'll dive into the co-minglings and conversations of iron and tannin-rich plants of our bio region to explore and interpret an array of earth hues on cotton, wool and silk! Iron and tannin are potent and storied partners in the history of natural dye, and I'm looking forward to getting deep and nerdy with metaphor and chemistry while pots simmer and fibers steam! This workshop will have a particular emphasis on mordanting, and I'll share lots of experiences and experiments with this very important step in the dye process.

Great for beginners and experienced dyers alike. All materials provided.

Workshop cost is $75. If you have the cash at the moment, we'd really appreciate the support. Money from workshop registrations is split between the art hive and wild Altar and directly fuels these community -driven projects that wouldn't be possible otherwise. 🙏

It is the equinox season! We are wrapped up in fall farm work these days with gardens full of plants growing in tiny little soil blocks made from our own zero peat potting soil blend. We are gathering fruits and nuts from the many wild and cultivated trees that offer up their seeds wrapped in tasty nourishing flesh.

If learning to eat hyper local seasonal cuisine is on your mind we would love to extend an offer to join the fall share of our CSA. This is a great opportunity for those interested in trying a csa but worried about the long term commitment. Fall shares start the first Friday of October and continue until the Friday before thanksgiving!
