In the karstic caves of Puerto Rico, cave art paints the rock walls. Previous research has assigned ages to this art based on the ages of nearby archaeological artifacts within the caves, but these ages are relative and may not reflect the true timing of the art creation.

Super excited, “Dancing Vejigante” was accepted at Osceola Arts upcoming exhibit. Art Without Borders opens September 12-October 29 and celebrates Hispanic Artists and Culture.

A vejigante is a folkloric character in Puerto Rican festival celebrations, mainly seen during Carnival time. Traditional colors of the Vejigantes were green, yellow, and red or red and black. Today, Vejigantes wear brightly colored, ornate masks corresponding to the colors of their costumes that detail bat-like wings. The term vejigante derives from the words vejiga (bladder) and gigante (giant) due to custom of blowing up and painting cow bladders.

If you are around Downtown Stuart, stop by The 1895 Church of StuArt. It was Stuart’s first church, a historical structure registered in The Florida Master Site File ID MT00346. It is now an Art Studio and Gallery. Thank you Olga Hamilton for the tour and history lesson. I really enjoyed.
