In his first official act, the new president of El Salvador orders name of Lt. Col. Domingo Monterrosa removed from Third Brigade Barracks in San Miguel. He was the most controversial figure of the 12-year civil war. Monterrosa, left, was considered the Salvadoran army's most adept field commander. Was stood accused of presiding over the infamous massacre at El Mozote. Monterrosa, left, was blown up in a helicopter such as the one pictured here in 1984 by the FMLN guerrillas, supposedly to avenge the massacre. Photo by © Scott Wallace.
