Comedian Jo Koy brings a laugh-out-loud evening to Jorgensen on his latest World Tour!

Coming off the highly anticipated Universal Picture film Easter Sunday and his recent Netflix special, Jo Koy, one of today’s premiere stand-up comics, brings his World Tour to Jorgensen. With four highly rated stand-up specials, including his most recent 2022 release Live From The Los Angeles Forum, Koy has come a long way from his modest beginnings in a Las Vegas coffee house to now selling out the world’s most prestigious venues. That’s a lot of laughs. The hugely relatable comic pulls inspiration from his Filipino family, especially his son. Co-Sponsored by the Asian American Cultural Center.

Several years of pandemic education have revealed and intensified mental health issues for all students. Despite greater attention to student needs, the conventional wisdom around mental health has reinforced practices of toxic positivity as well as harmful racial stereotypes connected to academic performance, emotional regulation, and coping with stress. Asian American studies scholars and practitioners have addressed these problems long before the onset of the pandemic, and their insights have great significance for understanding and supporting the needs of all students.

On Thursday, October 20, the Asian and Asian American Studies Institute and the Asian American Cultural Center will be hosting a day-long event to discuss these concerns.

From 9:30-11:00am, there will be a panel discussion with our invited scholars and practitioners. This space will be for faculty and staff. RSVP is required.

Beginning at 1:00 pm in the Asian American Cultural Center (SU 4th floor RM 428), each of our guests will be hosting a 45-minute workshop for students.

1:00 pm - Erin Khuê Ninh | Associate Professor - “Failure Level: Asian”

2:00 pm - Amanda Waters | Consultant and Clinical Psychologist - “Failure, Mediocracy, and Other Lies Perfectionism Tells”

3:00 pm - Mimi Khúc| Independent Scholar - "Touring the Student Mental Health Abyss"

4:00 pm - James Kyung-Jin Lee | Professor, Department of Asian American Studies - "The Unwellness of Wellness"
