The haunt industry has lost one of its true pioneers.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Randy Bates, founder of The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride in Pennsylvania.
What began as a small hayride on his family’s farm in 1991 grew into one of the most celebrated haunted attractions in the country. Along the way, Randy inspired generations of haunters through his creativity, innovation, generosity and willingness to help others.
But Randy was so much more than a legendary haunter. He was a devoted family man—a husband, dad and grandfather—and a friend to so many throughout our industry.
His attractions created countless screams, but his kindness and friendship created an even greater legacy.
Our hearts are with the Bates family, the entire Bates Motel team and everyone who knew and loved Randy.
Thank you for everything you gave our industry, Randy. The lights will continue to flicker, the wagons will continue into the woods and your legacy will live on every October.
Rest in peace, Randy. You will never be forgotten.
It is with tremendous sadness that we join our haunt family in remembering Randy Bates, founder of The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride.
