The Frederick News-Post l fredericknewspost.com

Check out this fun video of our friend Chef Christine from The Kitchen Studio in Frederick, MD! She makes this really fun soufflé type deliciousness that is great to do with kids with four simple ingredients!

Christine Van Bloem, owner of The Kitchen Studio Cooking School, demonstrates how to make a Dutch Baby- a type of German pancake, or popover. See the recipe below.

Recipe:
· ½ cup all purpose flour
· 1 tablespoon sugar
· Pinch of salt
· ½ cup milk
· 3 eggs
· 3 tablespoons butter
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
Place flour, sugar, and salt into a bowl and whisk together. Add milk and whisk, then add eggs and whisk until smooth. Alternatively, add flour, sugar, salt, milk, and eggs into a blender and blend until smooth.
Place butter in a 9” cake pan and place in the oven. As soon as the butter has melted, add the batter to the pan, return pan to the oven and bake for 20 minutes, until the pancake is puffed and golden.
Dust with confectioner’s sugar and fruit to serve.

Note: You can also make a savory Dutch baby by eliminating the sugar. Serve with sautéed veggies.

Isn’t this a perfect day for Pulled Pork BBQ, Tillarook Cheddar Mac&Cheese, and Red Cabbage slaw? Best wine to pair with BBQ sauce is always Pinot Noir—it’s just a food friendly wine, but if you’ve got a dry Rosé on hand or a dry Sauvignon Blanc, it lends a zippy acidity that evens out that wonderful sweetness of the sauce and pork. I've taken numerous classes at Cookology in the Dulles Town Center and they have always been wonderful! The chefs are amazing and are always helpful in answering any questions. The recipes are also great and generally easy to recreate at home.
Brought my husband & sister in law to the class and had an awesome time! What a great time with the chef and teh otehrs learing to cook. Best part...you have fun & get to end up eating a great meal! LOVE IT!
Chef Ed was fantastic. He was entertaining and a great teacher. The Korean food was delicious. Simple recipes that don’t require a lot of ingredients. Only complaint is the finish time. I wish we ate throughout the class instead of cooking everything at the end. I was sooo hungry
My 10 yr. old daughter attended one of the summer camps and loved it! She already loves to cook and bake but she learned some great new recipes and picked up and new skill or technique each day. The Ballston facility is beautiful and the staff was always very friendly.
We did the Cupcake Wars for Father's Day and it was so much fun. The rooms are spacious for working around groups of people and they provided plenty of options. We will def be coming back for classes here.
My boyfriend and I went for a date night and had such a blast! Chef Tina is such a gem and incredibly knowledgeable, flexible, and friendly. We started by making the dough and while it was proofing, snacked on the provided pizza and salad. Bonus: homemade ranch dressing! We will definitely be going back in the future! This is a great class whether you’re with friends, family or your partner. I’m looking forward to bringing my best friend and her daughter next!
Last Sunday I took the Mousses and Cremeuxs class. It was my first ever Cookology class. The chef cooked along with us and taught us how to correct mistakes while making the mousse and cremeux. The class was great and I look forward to taking more classes at Cookology Ballston.
Highly recommend the week long culinary workshop for teenagers. My boys don't cook and are not interested in food, however they loved it and would do it again. They are now willing to have a go at cooking dinner once a week based on the dishes they learned during the week. (They bought home some samples and everything was yummy!). So this Mom is very happy as well! Looking forward to them taking more classes. I might tag along next time.
Love this place
Had a fun night at Dulles locations making doughnuts and pizza with Chef Ed! Learned a lot about making dough and using deep fry method. I think the group of us 8 had a good time together. Yeah doughnuts 🍩🍩🍩👍🏻 Looking forward to the next class. Sandie Lindberg
Our chef Steve did a great job of teaching us how to cook steak with mushroom and port wine reduction, roasted garlic smashed potatoes, Roquefort blue cheese dressing was to die for on the iceberg wedge salad and chocolate lava cake! My husband commented that vanilla ice cream would go great with the cake and miraculously ice cream appeared which wasn't even on the menu! Great night out with my hubby at Cookology!
Do you guys have any photos from spring break camp at Dulles? All the photos are from Ballston.
