Australia Found a Way to Save Water From Plastic Pollution and We Can Start Doing the Same

Such a simple addition to stopping solid waste pollution from entering that 71% of the Earths surface we call the ocean (rivers and lakes too!).

Plastic pollution is a huge problem these days, as it has seriously damaging effects on our environment, health, and food. According to National Geographic: “Each year, an estimated 18 billion pounds of plastic waste enters the world’s ocean from coastal regions. That’s about equivalent to fiv...

Dead sperm whale in Indonesia had 115 plastic cups, 2 flip-flops in its stomach

Raise your voice! Plastic pollution is out of control in Indonesia and although this sperm whale’s cause of death can’t be identified, the cups and other man made items certainly contributed to it.

A dead whale that washed ashore in eastern Indonesia had a large lump of plastic waste in its stomach, including drinking cups and flip-flops.

Large ships require a professional navigator to come onboard for entering and exiting most ports. These highly trained sailors, known as pilots, know the local currents, tides, and underwater features better than anyone, helping these vessels to avoid running aground. Pilots board moving ships, risking their lives. We love them!

#25DaysofFishmas Day 18: Exactly one year ago, while exploring a Gulf of Mexico site referred to as "Gulfoil/MC796," we had this rare encounter with a swordfish feeding.

Want to learn more about our oceans and atmosphere? The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provides a rich array of educational resources to the public. Each day of the 25 Days of Fishmas, NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer will tell one fish tale from a recent ROV dive (above!) and post a link to one fishy resource. Today, learn about the new Blue Star Fishing Guide program, where sportfishing and sustainability meet in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary: https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/news/sep18/noaa-and-guides-partner-for-sustainable-fishing.html

Stone Crab Fishing, Crabbing in the Florida Keys!
