Sacred Hoop 🤍💛❤️🖤 🪶

This WIP is more personal as it encompasses all passed down indigenous teachings from various elders and ancestors to me and from me to my family, and so on. This sacred hoop/sun circle holds traditional teachings from my own native tribe, Chickasaw, and many others indigenous nations: Anishinaabe, Cherokee, Comanche, Diné, Seminole, and Choctaw. It’s a personal and intertribal piece representing connection to all beings and most importantly - Connection to our Creator. 🤍💛❤️🖤

My first three beaded hats. 🧢 🧢 🧢

The pink hat was gifted to me by my grandmother who started the pattern and helped get me started. I did the design and beading for both the Dallas cowboys fitted cap for my husband with 13/0 beads and then a beaded snapback for my brother with 11/0 beads. 💙❤️

Also pictured: Choker and earring set I created for my brother’s regalia.

My next hat will say “Mama” across the top. And I couldn’t be more excited to get started on that one!💕 🌸 🧢 🪡

So much fun creating and inventing together! ✏️ What would you like to see from Chup Chup Creative this summer? Let’s Brainstorm together! 🧠 ⛈️
An arts focused day camp for school aged kids?
Mama and Me class?
Women’s arts retreat?
Prayer/Bible Journaling classes
Dance classes/private lessons (While I can teach ballet and tap, I prefer jazz, Broadway, and hip hop. I’ve taught ballet and musical theatre dance styles at Sterling College in recent years past. I also have experience in coaching competitive gymnastics and cheer.)

🌸 ✏️ What’s up, Chup Chup?! 🪶 😎

It was wonderful to create with you all at Pots ‘n’ Pedals today!🌷🌸🪻🌵

My name is Sam Corwin. 😊 I am a Chickasaw artist with a background of artistic disciplines in both visual and performance art in both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I hold an bachelor’s degree in theatre and communication and a masters degree in theatre arts. I got more heavily into visual arts when I entered a program for an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary arts; However, I decided to put the M.F.A. on hold while I attended seminary in pursuit of another part of my call, a Master’s of Divinity so that I could dig deeper into theology and potentially take a call in ministry. After many crazy life plot twists (including: moving to Texas and back just before the pandemic, my mother diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, meeting my older long lost brother (32 years before we met!), reuniting with my biological family, and my father having an emergency triple bypass 🥴) I am here. Art-ing. Creating. Creator, art and me. So, if you’re interested in artistically journeying together, let’s create!
