The Statesboro Regional Art Association is saddened to share the passing of Jewel Elizabeth “Beth” Muldrew, one of the founding members of our association.

Beth dedicated 32 years to teaching art and inspiring creativity in generations of students. Her passion for the arts also helped lay the foundation for the artistic community SRAA continues to support today.

We are grateful for Beth’s lasting contribution to the arts in Statesboro and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, former students, and all who knew her.

June 19, 1936 - August 19, 2026 We celebrate the remarkable life of Jewel Elizabeth “Beth” Muldrew, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend who died on August 19, 2026, at the age of 90.

This year's SRAA Juried Exhibition at the Averitt Center will be extra special! There will be an additional award this year, the Ruth Straight Hibbs Member’s Choice Award, which will be voted on at the reception this Thursday by members only.

Ruth Straight Hibbs received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and later joined the faculty of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, as an art professor.

Ruth brought her unique skills and interests to Statesboro in 1970. She taught watercolor lessons in her home, and later established the Chatter Tree Art Center at 27 South Main Street in the old Holland house. There she taught watercolor lessons and operated an artist’s co-operative where she and other local artists sold their paintings and art crafts that they created.

She was a prolific watercolor painter and created hundreds of full-sheet watercolor paintings that continue to be treasured possessions for her family and friends.
