✨After six years, Milkweed is complete!🌱

I’ve created a monument to milkweed pods and to monarch butterflies, important ecological contributors and beloved annual migrants🦋. Milkweed plants serve as safe stopping points for monarchs along their journey, as Milkweed is a symbolic shelter or home for its visitors.

🪴The sculpture serves as a metaphorical welcome to wanderers, butterfly or human.

I fought to breathe this sculpture into existence. Every step has been done by my own hands, with simple tools: a plasma cutter, English wheel, flux core welder, and basic hand tools.🗜️I like to think I’ve created my own safety, my own little home in which to rest.

Come visit my studio while it’s here, and maybe catch me napping inside now that the work is done!

It’s been a pleasure installing “At Home in the Garden” 🌸 in Building 406A of Colonel’s Row, Governor’s Island, with ! 🌇Governor’s Island rejuvenates abandoned historical buildings and blurs the line between human and natural ecologies. Similarly, this installation breathes new life into the space it inhabits and expands local plants to larger-than-life characters. In a time of climate crises, this installation is a monument to overlooked ecologically significant plants such as magnolia, bloodroot, and trout lily, and an examination of local ecosystems they navigate.

I had a wonderful time yesterday at exhibiting with .eco thanks to curator ! 🎨I’m grateful for my parents and .n.t.o.n.k.o.t for making the long trek out to see me and my work. 🌷I was excited to be among climate and nature-oriented people, each in their own way using the arts to address the climate crisis. 🌍 The show is on view at 406A Comfort Road (on Colonel’s Row)each weekend through October, more info here: https://luma.com/956bjnwd. You can’t have a giant milkweed pod without the seeds and fluff! I’m emulating milkweed silk, most of which is about to be covered with seeds, along the inside of my pod. I’m painting the inside so that the inner world of the sculpture is more welcoming and softer than the spiky outside. I want to create a welcoming experience for those looking in. The paint also offers a dappled, speckled surface for light to play off of; the holes in my sculpture remind me of stained glass windows or openings in the forest canopy.

Death Valley Doodles: the very best spot was the sand dunes. ⏳They were so peaceful, especially around sunset 🌅 and I went about five times, soking in the views and vibes. We also went with who brought her signature chaotic twist to the dunes—one of my favorite travel memories in her rolling down all of them💀
