Review of Everybody at Saint Louis University Theatre

"Under Alicia Revé Like’s astute direction, the excellent Saint Louis University cast seized on opportunities for humor in the script but shifted persuasively to a serious tone when required. The performers were highly attuned to the comedy in the script’s toying with its own theatricality."
Thanks for joining us, Gerry!

Everybody is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ updating of the late 15th century morality, Everyman. The clever adaptation for contemporary audiences received a fine production from Saint Louis University Theatre.

Today we're saying thanks to Kariné Poghosyan, who recently visited our University as a guest artist. Kariné is an internationally acclaimed Armenian-American pianist, whose recent performances include two sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall. Ms. Poghosyan gave a dynamic performance at College Church on Thursday, November 10. Music major Serina Daniels opened the concert with an excellent performance of Debussy's “Pagodes” from Estampes. Beforehand, the President's Circle had a small reception to welcome Kariné and bring awareness to our All Steinway Initiative, which you can read more about here:
https://www.slu.edu/arts-and-sciences/fine-and-performing-arts/music/steinwayinitiative.pdf

The following day, Ms. Poghosyan led a masterclass for our Piano majors and two local high school students. The day concluded with another concert in College Church, where the students performed pieces by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and Scriabin. Ms. Poghosyan closed the concert with a thrilling rendition of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."

This was an unforgettable experience for our students. We give thanks to Ms. Kariné Poghosyan for her work. Photos by ProPhotoSTL.

Gerry says, "Publish the script!"

Many thanks to Two on the Aisle, who joined us at The Government Inspector last weekend!

Hopkins and Cashion’s inspired innovation is moving the action forward in time to the Cold War. The government is communist rather than tsarist, but the satire is as pointed and entertaining as ever.

Bob Wilcox enjoyed an adaptation of one of his favorite plays by the students at the Saint Louis University Theatre department in spite of his trepidation surrounding "devised theatre". "Saint Joan of Arc" is the work mounted at SLU, and here is the review.
Happy Friday, Billikens! Acclaimed actress Jennifer Apple recently spent time with SLU students as part of a master class series put on by our friends Saint Louis University Theatre. Jennifer provided valuable insights in to the world of acting and coached the students on their monologues and musical theatre pieces. We cannot thank her enough for sharing her time with us!

Go see Jennifer as part of the performance of The Band's Visit, now playing The Fabulous Fox!
