Throwing it back to my Conrad Schmitt days and sharing a few photos of Dave Andrews — an artist and mentor who had a lasting impact on the way I approach this work and the spaces around me.
As more time has gone on, I’ve come to appreciate even more how Dave took me under his wing and welcomed me to CCS when I first moved to Milwaukee. Working alongside him and hearing the deep love he had for his wife Jennifer and daughter Allison was always something beautiful to witness.
I think artists tend to feel everything deeply. It’s part of what allows us to notice details, tell stories through our hands, and bring emotion and life into the spaces we touch. Dave carried that depth in his work. After more than thirty years in the field, his artistry left a mark on countless spaces and on the many artists who worked for him and beside him.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe he’s no longer here, but his influence on the spaces he shaped — and the people he invested in — will be felt for years to come.
Thank you, Dave, for sharing your artistry, knowledge, humor and generosity with me. Hoping someday I can pass along to the next generation what you gave to me.
Cheers. I miss you and think of you often.

This piece sold about a year and a half ago, and it’s still one of my favorites. It was the first piece that really kicked off this style for me.
One of the things I love most about working this way is using the natural character of the wood to help shape the composition. When I first saw this piece of wood, I immediately knew I wanted to stain the sacred heart of Jesus onto it. The grain, imperfections, and movement already felt like part of the image.
I really enjoy this style because it feels less like I’m placing an image onto the wood and more like I’m uncovering something that was already there. I love the subtlety of it and how the image becomes part of the material itself.

Came home one afternoon to find this cute little play kitchen my husband built for the kids. He handled the hard part, and now I’m having fun adding a little character to it. I’ll share the finished version someday… whenever I finally get around to finishing it.

Built to last is an understatement with this one. This 10 ft by 4 ft red oak table was designed and handcrafted by my husband, and it comfortably seats 10 on the benches.
The client asked for a taller, 36-inch height to better fit their family—especially with a very tall dad and five growing boys who are sure to follow in his footsteps. They wanted something that could truly keep up with them through every stage of life.
From everyday meals to the wear and tear of real life, this table was made to handle it all and still be around for the next generation.
Couldn’t be happier with how this piece came together.

Working on site is always my favorite part—watching it come to life in its own space.
This altar is plaster, and we’re building it up to look like marble—starting with lots of prep, then slowly layering texture and depth.
I never stopped to take true before-and-after photos, so you’re getting dropped in halfway through—but it’s better than nothing.
Here’s a short, choppy look at some in-progress moments. I’ve really enjoyed working with this crew—thank you Michelle Bowman for inviting me onto this project.
Final coming soon.

A piece completed, now perfectly at home.

I really enjoy creating these compositions and letting the character of each piece of wood come through.

Each piece is stained once, making every one unique.

These stained glass windows were just installed in Colorado. My friend Isabel painted the panel of John Paul II—really beautiful work. The full set was created by Emil Frei Studios, and it all came together so well!
