Camalla**s invades the fishes as soon as they eat the worms or eat the secondary host. A pair of Nematodes setup shop and start breeding at about 3 weeks after ingestion. The Nematode is a live bearer so there are no eggs to worry about but there is a secondary host and most established aquariums have the Copepods necessary to continue the life cycle of the parasite.
Shrimp don't play a part in the parasites life style except they might carry a few of the tiny worms around with their body parts. A few days without fish and/or several changes of water eliminate them from the chain of events that infest the fishes.
In 20 years, I have found only one compound that affects the Nematode strongly to kill it and that is Levamisole. It is not fed to the fish but dissolved into their water they live in. EVERYTHING WET NEEDS to be treated. Put everything back together the way it is most comfortable for the fish. If you moved the fish to a different glass cage, it is infested now as well.
The parasite invades the fish in 3 weeks and after 4 weeks it is distributing the live young to the living quarters for all to become infested. It takes about 6 weeks before the Nematode appears at the a**s of the fish to be discovered.
