PIECE 8/10

In The Reckoning, the quiet understanding of earlier moments erupts into action. No longer uncertain or cautious, the woman confronts the swan directly, seizing control of the story that once held power over her. Feathers burst into the air as the myth itself begins to fracture.

The violent motion of the composition contrasts with the strength of her posture. What once appeared graceful and untouchable is now revealed as vulnerable, stripped of its illusion.

This piece represents the moment of reclamation…the instant when the woman refuses the role the myth assigned to her and instead takes control of the narrative, transforming the story into something entirely her own.

PIECE 6/10

In The Realization, the moment of understanding begins to surface. The woman holds the swan close, but her attention is no longer guided by curiosity or fascination. Instead, there is a quiet awareness in the gesture…an emerging recognition that the creature before her is not what it first appeared to be.

The calm posture contrasts with the tension beneath it. What once felt mysterious now reveals something more deliberate. The swan and the man are no longer separate ideas but parts of the same truth.

This piece captures a turning point in the story…the moment when innocence gives way to awareness, and the woman begins to see the myth for what it truly is.

PIECE 3/10

In The Quiet Seduction, the distance between the woman and the swan disappears. Their forms curve toward one another in a near mirror, creating a moment that feels intimate, hushed, and suspended in time. The woman’s eyes are lowered, suggesting contemplation, surrender, or perhaps uncertainty about what is unfolding.

The swans frame her gently, their necks echoing the lines of her profile, creating a visual harmony that feels almost tender. Yet beneath this softness lies the tension of the myth itself…the blurred boundary between affection and control, beauty and danger.

This piece captures the quiet turning point in the story, where fascination deepens and the line between invitation and influence becomes difficult to see.

PIECE 7/10

In The Swan Mask, the woman no longer approaches the swan with curiosity or uncertainty. She has learned the truth, and with that knowledge comes a new kind of power. Her posture is calm, her gaze steady, but the softness of the moment hides a deeper shift taking place.

Rendered in a simplified, folk-inspired style, the figure becomes almost symbolic…less a portrait and more a role being performed. The stylization suggests the quiet act of transformation: the understanding that survival sometimes requires adopting a new shape, a new voice, or a new mask.

This piece represents the moment when awareness turns into strategy. The woman begins to reshape herself, preparing to meet the myth on her own terms.

PIECE 5/10

In The Metamorphosis, the boundary between man and swan dissolves completely. Feathers erupt into hair, wings fold into the contours of a human face, and the swan’s form merges seamlessly with the man beneath it. What was once disguise becomes transformation.

The figure no longer hides behind the elegance of the swan. Instead, both identities occupy the same body: predator and myth, beauty and power, illusion and truth. The swan’s beak curves through the composition like a lingering echo of the creature it once appeared to be.

The swan is not simply an animal, and the man is not entirely separate from it. In this transformation, the story reaches a point where disguise is no longer necessary…the true nature of the figure has emerged.

swan song

swan song is a surreal, folk-pop collection inspired by the myth of Leda and the Swan…a story historically told through the lens of beauty, seduction, and divine power. In its original form, the myth centers on Zeus disguising himself as a swan to approach and lure in Leda, blurring the line between desire and deception.

This body of work reclaims that narrative.

Across the collection, the swan shifts from symbol of allure to something more complex…something calculated, intrusive, and ultimately unmasked. The woman at the center of the story moves through stages of curiosity, unease, realization, and response. What begins as quiet observation evolves into awareness, strategy, confrontation, and ultimately transformation.

My work often blends human and animal imagery to explore the tension between instinct and identity. In swan song, that transformation becomes intentional. The woman does not remain a passive figure within the myth…she studies it, adapts to it, and eventually reshapes it. She becomes whatever she needs to become in order to survive, protect herself, and reclaim control.

The visual language shifts alongside her journey. Early pieces hold softness and symmetry, while later works become more expressive, fragmented, and bold. Moments of stillness give way to movement, disruption, and release. Even the simplified forms reflect a kind of masking…what we present versus what we understand beneath the surface.

This collection is not about retelling the myth…it is about interrupting it.

It is about recognizing patterns, questioning power, and choosing transformation over submission.

Themes: power, deception, awareness, transformation, reclamation
Palette: saturated hues like crimson, teal, ochre, cobalt, and bone
Style: surreal, folk-pop, expressive, and symbolic

PIECE: 4/10

In Surface Tension, the swan’s disguise begins to slip. Rising from the water, the figure reveals hints of the man beneath the myth…the true presence behind the elegant feathers. What once appeared as a creature of beauty and mystery now carries the unmistakable suggestion of intention.

The calm surface of the water mirrors the stillness of the moment, yet the tension beneath it is undeniable. The man’s profile emerging inside the swan suggests a quiet revelation: the realization that the visitor was never only a swan.

This piece represents the moment when illusion begins to crack…when charm gives way to recognition, and the truth behind the myth briefly surfaces.

PIECE 2/10

In The Suitor, the swan appears not as a wild creature but as a composed and deliberate presence. Dressed in a jacket, he takes on the posture of a gentleman…calm, confident, and almost civilized. Yet the contrast between the refined clothing and the unmistakable form of the swan creates an unsettling tension.

The saturated red background suggests intensity and danger beneath the surface, while the bright teal jacket introduces a strange charm. The figure presents itself as something familiar and acceptable, but its true nature remains impossible to ignore.

This piece represents the moment when the visitor becomes more intentional: when curiosity turns into pursuit. The swan begins to take shape as a character within the story, embodying both allure and unease, reminding us that power often arrives disguised as something charming.

The Visitor (piece 1)

In The Visitor, the swan appears quietly, almost politely, entering the frame as both stranger and symbol. The woman’s gaze reveals a moment of uncertainty (curiosity mixed with unease) as she e becomes aware of the presence beside her. This piece captures the fragile moment before understanding, when something unfamiliar feels both intriguing and unsettling.

This work represents the beginning of the story…the moment when the unknown first arrives and the balance between fascination and caution begins to shift.

Hello everyone! Thank you to those of you who were able to make it to my show last night at the Springfield-Greene County Library District downtown location! I’m so thankful for the support and I’m sorry I couldn’t be there 🤒. As many of you now know, I’ve been creating art since the 3rd grade. I started sharing publicly in late 2024 thanks to the Springfield Regional Arts Council. My MANY WITHIN US collection at the library includes some new pieces, some old, and some pieces that were in my basement for a long time. I’m thankful they get to be out in the open now. If you’re thinking about sharing your art, please do it. The world needs it.
