Welcome to our Safety for Arts page!
Since coming together a month ago, we’ve had a lot of questions regarding our purpose, mission, and vision for our group. We are excited to share this with you today!
Join us to help make the Arts safe for everyone.
——————-
Mission:
Safety for Arts exists to foster safe, inclusive, accountable, and transparent art community environments where creativity, volunteerism, and artistic expression can thrive without fear of harassment, abuse, retaliation, or exclusion.
We advocate for meaningful organizational change that protects people, strengthens governance, and builds healthier artistic communities for current and future generations.
Vision:
A thriving art community where safety and belonging are the foundation, and every person who walks through the door can give their whole self to the work.
Principles:
1. Love for Arts: We advocate from deep commitment to community arts. Reform is an act of care, not opposition.
2. People Before Image: Policies exist to protect
people, not the organization's reputation. When the two conflict, people come first.
3. Prevention over Reaction: We advocate for protections that create safe conditions, not just procedures for after damage is done.
4. Earned Leadership: Leadership should be term-limited, regularly renewed, and reflective of the community, not a permanent honor.
5. Clear Accountability: Governance structures must be defined and understood so responsibility cannot be passed between bodies indefinitely.
6. Radical Transparency: Bylaws, governance, and board structures belong to the public. A community organization has no legitimate reason to hide how it operates.
