Estamos preparando materiales para la celebración del Día del Niño en la biblioteca CALS en Maumelle el próximo 25 de Abril. ¿Puedes adivinar qué es lo que haremos con estás?

¡Nada más rico que romper una piñata hecha por la comunidad!

Durante 2025, Tiempo de Ocio en colaboración con la Springdale Public Library en Arkansas y los jóvenes voluntarios, organizamos talleres dónde jóvenes de la comunidad aprendieron a hacer piñatas con cartonería tradicional.

Posteriormente tuvimos diferentes sesiones para decorarlas. Niños, jóvenes, adultos y personal de la biblioteca se reunieron para terminar de darles vida a estás enormes piñatas.

Todo este proyecto siempre tuvo un objetivo claro: La Celebración de la Posada que se llevó acabo el pasado Sábado 13 de Diciembre en las instalaciones de la biblioteca.

En este evento abierto a todo público, familias de la comunidad tuvieron oportunidad de hacer una peregrinación a través de varias estaciones con actividades relacionadas a los valores de las celebraciones decembrinas para terminar en las piñatas.

Al canto del tradicional "Dale, Dale, Dale" los niños le dieron de palazos a las piñatas, que al no poder aguantar más, por fin cedieron con una lluvia de regalos, botanas y juguetes.

Tanto familias Mexicanas que ya conocían la tradición, como familias de otros países que por primera vez vivieron este tipo de fiesta, se juntaron para celebrar, cantar y compartir.

Nuestro más profundo agradecimiento a la Biblioteca Pública de Springdale, a todo el staff, y los voluntarios por su entusiasta colaboración. Y aún más agradecidos con la comunidad de Springdale que sin ellos, este proyecto no habría sido el éxito que fue.

Going to a home decor store is a sobering and humbling experience.

As an artist, a small part of me daydreams about galleries and collectors, venues and halls were my work gets displayed to thousands of people.

It's certainly not the reason why I paint, but once I finish a painting I allow myself that little indulgence. After all, the artists I admire I only know because their work was on display somewhere.

Those fantasies get snuffed quickly walking through the aisles of a home decor store.

Mass reproductions of quirky images (some that came from an original painting or photography, but many others that were prompted to an AI), whose sole purpose seems to be accessibility in cost and commodity.

I cannot say with any semblance of authority if these pieces can be referred to art or not, I have arguments for both sides of that question; but it does create a gap in expectations between original works and the price anyone can pay at one of these stores.

With more questions than answers, here's a picture of a plein air painting I did last week, perhaps the most uncomfortable I've done to date. My goal was to exercise two things: a limited palette and impressionist approach.

A stone bridge hidden in the forest - plein air painting, gouache

After a little stroll away from the cabin, right in the path of a creek that, on rainy days, trickles all the way down to the valley, lies this bridge. The path brings whispers of times before and the swoosh of the autumn leaves carries some sort of secret magic.

¡¡Festival de Día de Mu***os en Fayetteville!!

Thank you to everyone who came and painted sugar skull ornaments with us! It was a fun event and I'm genuinely pleased to have seen so many people enjoying the activity! Kids and adults alike.

Huge shout-out to and the Consulado de México en Little Rock for making this happen allowing us to share a bit of Mexican culture with everyone!

¡Gracias a todos los que vinieron a pintar estos ornamentos de calaverita de azúcar con nosotros! La verdad es que estuvo muy divertido y estoy genuinamente encantado de haber visto tanta gente disfrutando la actividad! Niños y adultos por igual.

Aplausos y ovaciones para Avanza Arkansas, el Community Creative Center y el Consulado de México en Little Rock por hacer este evento posible, dándonos el espacio para compartir un poco de la cultura mexicana con la banda!
