Here are some reactions to my books, both pro and con, both by message and in person.
"Loved it! So much made sense at the end! I hope the next book is just as good!" (Book two had been out three months)
"What's with all the Mary Sues?"
"The entire concept is ridiculous, but it made sense."
"Your aliens are to [sic] alien!"
Her: "Let me tell you how the women you write would be thinking."
Me, after realizing which characters she means: "They're aliens. They don't think the same."
Her: "But . . . " ::walks off::
::solemn look::
::hands me a Bible::
::walks off::
Him: "I loved this entire book! So, who were all these poems based on?"
Me: "'Five Faces' talks about the five people who inspired half the poems, some were inspired by random events, and some were just done on the spot."
Him: "So you just make s**t up?"
Me: ::don'tsayitdon'tsayitdon'tsayit::
"You have such a creative mind!"
"Please sign all three copies!" 😎
"I wanna know . . . " (Me = spoiler free zone)
Yes, I do get accusations because of "freely naked aliens" which will eventually be revealed as a thematic plot device. Much of what they say is wrong, so wrong😔 Well, except one world, but that will barely be addressed.
But the worst was the woman I argued with because she thought The Assignment was an endorsement of divorce. I forgot why for a while, then I started thinking it was "The Tell-Off", but now I remember. She misunderstood the theme of reunion after separation, which was loosely based on the story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis.
