the creative home of Ernesto Peña Jr. Ernesto was born in Brooklyn NY in the summer of love 1966. Despite he visual impairment he studied in NY til High School and hadbeen thinking about a career as an artist. At that time he was inspired and trained by his father master artisan E
rnesto Peña Carambot. He also incorporated some techniques he learned from watching “The Joy of Painting w/ Bob Ross” back in the 70’s in his early teens. It was the only way he could see for himself how to use the brush correctly without being embarrassed about his sight. After being rejected by the High School of Art and Design , and the High School of Performing Arts he became discouraged and stopped pursuing a path as an artist. He than left New York, and traveled around between the Caribbean island of Vieques PR, Fort Lauderdale FL, Colorado, and the USVI bartending until the age of 26 then he had finally decided on a career in technology. He attended and graduated Lions World Services for the Blind, credited by the University of Arkansas in 1996 and earned a bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science . At this time LWSB was the only place in the U.S. for people who were blind or with severely low vision to earn and receive a bachelors in Computer Science. Ernesto then started his career as a Systems Engineer. After a while, a few years into his career he would end up getting one of the best opportunities ever possible for Systems Engineer. Designing and Implementing multi million dollars computer systems on cruise ships and mega yachts. At the same time he was able to visit and work in 44 countries around the world. After 23 years Ernesto was forced to retire at the onset of developing a cataract in his good eye at the age of 52, which just about made him totally blind. After his surgery Ernesto had recovered his vision again and was able to see again, but not only could he see again, he could see better than he ever could in his life. Yes he still has pretty bad vision but for someone who never had the vision in the first place it’s a miracle. So he decided to to share his experiences and his feelings on how he sees the world through his lense. He hopes you enjoy his point of view, support, and enjoy his art.
